Gold discolored necklace

I have a gold link necklace i think its really old is it possible for 14k gold to look almost as light as silver if its real

Gold chains are made in white gold (like silver colour) rose gold (a pinkish yellow colour) and yellow gold.
Does the chain have any numbers or letters on the clasp or end loop? Like 14kt or 14ct or 585 for eg
Chains can also be simply gold plated, underneath could sterling silver (the stamp would be 925) or a base metal. If a base metal, there won’t be any assay marks. Gold plating does wear off over time.
A gold buyer, jeweller or pawnbroker could test it for you.
