Ok- my girlfriend and I have been looking at diamonds for a while and have finally settled on this VS1 I color .72 round brilliant.

These are the numbers on the GIA report:

Table-55
Depth- 61.8
Crown angle- 34
Pavilion angle-40.8
Star-50
Lower half-80
Symmetry- Excellent
Polish-Excellent
Cut-Excellent

This is an online purchase and I am not able to see it before buying it. It has a basic gemologist report on it that tells us about the inclusions but nothing about its performance. It has a HCA of 1.

My only worry is that the crown angle of 34 might be a little small- most excellent cut diamonds I have looked at have a crown angle of around 34.5. Could this smallish crown angle potentially make the diamond a little shallow and darker than one with a bigger crown angle?

The crown angle/table combination should make for nice crown height. Even with GIA's rounding you're in a safe zone. We can't comment about cut consistency or precision - but the basic numbers are solid. What is the listed crown height?

Hi John,

I'm not 100% which number on the illustration on the GIA report is the crown height, but does 15% sound right?

You got it. And it's more evidence that the basic numbers are in a nice sweet spot.

That is very reassuring- thank you!
