Hi there, I'm going to buy my girlfriends engagement ring today, and our bands, from James Allen.

Could you guys help me pick out a round diamond?

We have a budget of $1800 Canadian for the loose diamond.

Could you guys show me what you would personally pick out with that kind of budget from James Allen?

Thanks :)

Thanks for the help on the conversion. I don't think I'd want to go below a J, would prefer an I.

You are looking in the half carat range, correct?

Thanks for the links, I love both. Let's say we wanted to go down to si1, but a bit bigger of a diamond, what would be a good option?

All I'm really concerned about is getting a good quality diamond that will pass the eye test, while getting the largest one $1800 will get me

Yes that's fine, but there aren't any obvious well cut Si1s that are any better than the VS2s. B2C can sometimes be slightly cheaper, would you consider them? You may get a 0.6x I Si1/vs2 within budget.

My search included SI1s and basically could not find any I thought were clean. I though I had included this one.
These were the biggest in your budget.

I'll include SI2s to see if there are any that might* be clean.

Edit...this is bigger but clarity is based on clouds. We've had problems lately with cloudy stones...clouds can block the
light return/sparkle/brilliance. All I can say is that you will need to ask James Allen about it to see how the clouds are affecting
it.

I could a little bit, did you see something nice slightly past my budget?

Thanks for all the help and links so far, it's all much appreciated everyone.

Question, I really don't want to see a yellow tinge in the diamond that's visible to the eye.. will J colour be okay?

Yes, you will probably see a slight tint in J. Not ugly but not bright white.

Edit...you might see a tint in an "I" also but somethings got to give between budget/size/color.

You can ask JA how eye-clean this one is. It is a D so it will be very white. Remember that these images are blown up about
40 times I believe.

This one has a cloud but I can see it and it doesnt look that big...but you still need to ask JA about it.

JA will be completely honest with how eye visible everything is?

This is JAs definition of eye-clean. Yes, they will be honest. They also have a very generous return policy if you dont like it when
you get it (I know thats not always easy from Canada though).
"Eye-Clean" is a term used to describe a diamond that is clean to an unaided eye in a face-up position from a distance of 8 to 10 inches. Diamonds of VS2 or higher in quality will usually be eye-clean. Diamonds of SI1, SI2 and I1 need to be visually inspected to determine whether any inclusions are visible from the top. We can inspect any diamond at no charge.

Why wouldn't it be easy from Canada, just because of shipping times?

I don't think JA will pay for shipping costs for returns for international purchases.

JA does cover return shipping from Canada, you just have to recover taxes paid from fedex.

How do you go about recovering the taxes from FedEx?
