Hi, I am new here and love cushions. I have been looking for a 3+ct cushion for months and I like the GOG August Vintage cushion. http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/6381/

My question is, the price seems to be much higher than most cushions that I have seen. I know the D color is bringing up the price on their 3.13, but are they worth such a higher % for the cut. That one has SB flouro with the D, so I was hoping that would bring it down a little, but it still quotes higher than any other stones I have priced.

After searching PS for a while, I see GOG has a good recommendation record and alot of people love the AVC, but does the premium seem worth it?

Thanks!!!!!

To me, yes.

I love that they''ve optimized light return, and have perfected a cut that has the appeal of an OMC but used the science and information available now to make sure it really sparkles. As a girl who just plain doesn''t like smaller facets, but appreciates the precision in the cut, it''s a perfect combination.

But that''s me. You have to figure out if it''s worth it to *you*. We all have to weigh different factors when we choose our diamonds, and if the premium is causing you to have doubts, look around. Look at other cushions and OMCs, and see what sings to you. If their AVC sings to you, then it''ll be worth the premium.

Is there any way you could see it in person, or ask for a video of it alongside some less-precisely cut cushions with somewhat similar specs? That might help you decide if the premium is worth it to you personally (because of course, everyone will have a different answer but that''s what''s really important.

If you love *that type* of cushion yet it''s worth it. If you could take it or leave it, then I would find another personally. There are a lot of beautifully cut cushions that don''t have the same markup. You just won''t get that facet pattern.

Right. You''re paying the premium for a unique look. You just have to figure out if that look is worth the premium to you. It''s no different than figuring out if you must have that Cartier or must have that Valentino gown. If only the AVC will do it for you then it''s worth the premium.

I love the chunky facets and the fire and light return, and think they are worth the mark-up for that look BUT I prefer them in lower colors so the sticker shock isn''t quite so bad.

Hi Snoozie. I''ve been stalking the GOG AVCs for a while now and that 3.13ct hasn''t gone anywhere, I presume b/c of the price which seems related to the color. There have been some others in that weight range that were lower colors and were significantly cheaper (many thousands). I do think that they are wonderful and hope to own one myself one day.

Happy hunting!

If you covet an amazing diamond in a D color than yes it is worth it. If you still like icey white and don''t mind an E-G color diamond than you''re going to save a tremendous amount of money. I would imagine that a 3 carat G VS2 would come in 15 k or so cheaper. Just as a reference I purchased a 2.85 AVC, VS2, K color for a bit under 17k. Probably much too warm for what you''d like to have, but like I said if you were to move into that F-G color range you''re going to save a lot. It''s just a matter of GOG finding a stone with those specs.

My personal experience is this: In 3 months or so of checking GOG inventory on somewhat of a daily basis, I''ve seen probably 3-5 diamonds that came in at the 2.5-3.25 range all of which were ijn the I-L color range. On the other hand I''ve seen just 1 bigger AVC in his inventory that was lower than an I color, and it''s the very one you''re looking at. Perhaps tracking down Jonathan and seeing what he can do would be a good idea, that is if you have plenty of time to wait, because I''m sure you would have to.

BTW the AVC are awesome, I''ve seen them in person. Cool to look at. Still have not received mine yet in the setting, but I can''t wait

Thanks for all the input!

I think I will stick to a G range. The premium on this stone is just too high.

The stones that I had been looking at were all in the G range and were averaging 10-30% in price difference to the D stone.

I do love the facet pattern and love a good fire storm, but I also would like less culet.

So I guess I will keep looking.

Thanks everyone....

I adore those cushions, but I think it is important to see them in person if you can before making such a larger purchase.
