I thought my next stone purchase would be a GOG AVC, but after stumbling upon JBEG and the lovely antique cushions......I just don''t know....

What are your opinions? What would you choose and why? I''m not ready to buy yet but would love some feedback!

I personally love ''real'' antique cushions and well, the pricing is usually better. I''d see what JBEG had to offer if it were me. Bang for buck means a lot to me, and so does some history, if I''m going for a vintage ring, I personally want the center to be vintage-- if I can swing it.

This is really a personal preference. There is a lot of charm in each option. On one hand, the AVC is cut for performance - you know each one meets up to a standard so it is easier to find out. True antique cushions range greatly so it might take a little longer to find one you like. With that said, true antique cushions have so much personality and they each look special and unique. If you are picky on high clairty and color, it might be a little harder to find in an antique stone. Either way .. you can''t go wrong.

I have nothing to add, but I would like one of each

Excuse the novice question, but what company is JBEG?

They are Jewels by Erica Grace! They''re awesome to deal with and would highly recommend them as I''ve dealt with them and am currently looking to buy a cushion as well.

Von03 - I agree that it is a personal preference. I personally love the look and history of a true antique cushion. LOL...please don''t buy the one I''m looking at!

Will someone please tell me what or who JPEG is? Please?

I''m all about the antiques. With the AVC you certainly know exactly what you''re going to get. Personally, though, I''d really miss the large, round culet of my ideal OMC. I also love the romance of an older stone.

You just really need to figure out what look you prefer, I guess.

Thank you so much ladies!

It''s definitely a personal preference I think. What matters more to you? The personality and history of a true antique, or the modern light performance and symmetry of an AVC? Me, personally, I would prefer symmetry and light performance since I''m not particularly sentimental - I would choose an AVC for that reason. But I don''t think there''s a right answer to this choice - especially since, whichever one you choose, it''s going to be a beautiful diamond!

Depends on your preference I think. I love nice symmetrical OECs and Transitionals, but there is still a...warmth to them? A hand-crafted quality, which modern diamonds lack. Even GOG's gorgeous vintage reproduction cuts are almost too symmetrical for my tastes. Subtle imperfections are more pleasing to my eye than perfect symmetry. :)

I have both a true antique OMC (see avitar) and a August cushion. Even though my antique is quite a performer the AVC blows it far, far away. The AVC still has that irregular charm that I, too, love. I believe GOG can put a larger culet on it if you wish.

Now, I don''t wish to offend anyone. I still love and am fascinated by true old stones. Erica & Grace seem like awesome people and have a way cool thing with these old stones and settings. I love that they are keeping the history and charm alive. JMO.

This was my first thought too, which makes me think they're not exactly equivalent, if you see what I mean. I would genuinely love one of each and I would enjoy different aspects of each. If I was thinking about an AV, I wouldn't be looking at antique stones and vice versa, I just see them as completely different things.

Personally, I'd go for the antique cushion first, but it is entirely about personal preference. If I have my heart set on an AV, I wouldn't be 100% happy with anything else, though! I have an antique cushion and I still have the AV on my wishlist.
