GOG and choice between two OMCs

I am working with Jon on upgrading an AVR to a genuine OMC. After owning couple of AVCs and an AVR I came to a conclusion that my eyes prefer genuine old cuts. I voiced my opinion in one of the long topics that discussed GOG and Jon responded right in the topic that he has an access to old cuts and would be happy to source one for me if I wish to go this route. Couple of week ago I sent my AVR back and asked Jon to source an OMC I-J in a 1 carat range (I'm OK with them being EGL graded).
Last Friday Jon shot a video of those two. I pretty much made my choice, just wanted to share another GOG with Pricescope community.
I have to say that I'm very impressed with Jon's desire to go all the way to satisfy his customers. I don't know if any other vendor would be so open and willing to source an old cut to exchange the branded cuts, just because the customer feels like it (I know, I'm spoiled as a customer now :). Thanks, Jon!

Those are beautiful, Inna! I saw the video on Saturday, Jon made a video for me too this weekend and I feel so special! ;) After so many years of watching their videos, it's like a celebrity giving you a shout out. :) They really do have great service!

I really like #2 - it's a J but seems brighter even in daylight. It has more consistent flashes, while #1 does have some big flashes of light. Both are really nice quality compared to what I've seen in stores here in LA for OMC and OEC. So which one did you chose? :) Whichever one - congrats!

They are both beautiful but I like #1 best. There is less of the whole maltese-cross thing going on. I like the shape of the first one better too, but if you are going for a cushion that has more of a square shape, then #2 would be better. Which one did you decide on?!?!

They both look good, I have no vote! I like the shape of 2 but the smaller table on 1.

I wonder, how does GOG's pricing on these real old cuts compare to OWD and JBEG in your opinion?

Nice stones!

I like #2 - the cushion shape.

So.. which one are you getting?

So far I like number 2 better, but I have a tendency to change my opinion once I make the choice, so I keep coming back and looking at the video.
I like the performance of it and the kozibe effect, but I find the shape of the number 1 more interesting.
Dreamer, I don't know the pricing on both stones yet, but when I gave my specifications to Jon I included the price, so I hope it will be somewhere near it. I am waiting for him to come back with the pricing. And my choice will depend on the pricing as well.
I did say to Jon that I would like an OMC with tiny facets and I think that he was able so source what I asked for. The kozibe effect is a nice bonus :).

I remember your post, good to hear that GOG came through for you! They're both completely adorable ::) I have a vague preference for the one on the L, I love the shape (actually it kinda reminds me of Yenny's antique oval)...

Glad to see its working out for you :)

I also saw the video the other day! Pretty stones!

What AVR are you trading in?

Before i traded in two AVCs. Kind of already feel bad for being so indecisive and constantly training in. Hopefully one of those stone will make me happy so I can stop with that. My husband will surely appreciate it :).

I like the ovaly shape myself and was stocking ebay for a while to find one, but never had any luck. waiting for the pricing on those and will make my decision than.

I think both stones are beautiful and I'd be happy with either one. I'm glad I'm not the one having to make the decision!

Both gorgeous but I prefer the one on the right.

Oh, I am sure a number of us can relate to the indecisive part. :loopy: Jon deserves a special award for putting up with all of us!

I like the one on the right the best. The 1.06 J.

I love them both. I feel like number 2 is a brighter stone, but I really like the oval-ish shape of number one because I think it's more unique.

OH, they are very beautiful. Personally i prefer the square shape cushions, but IMO, that 1st one has better symmetry and is a better performer and brighter, not because of the I vs J color but it just looks like it has more bright flashes. I choose #1 on the left. Set E/W it will be stunning. Do you have the measurements? I just love these stones.

Nice ring setting...cushion cut O/P color set E/W

Tough choice...good luck!

Ariel,
This is my favorite diamond on the Pricescope. I am secretly in love with it since the moment Heaven posted first pictures. I don't have the measurements yet, but if I’ll go with it I’ll set it E/W.

I thought that most of the voices will be for the square cushion, but it looks like the shape of the first one makes it an equal contender.

Love the video - Jon should be up for a Diamond Academy Award somehow -lets call them the "SPARKLIES"

I prefer the shape of #2 and even tho it was a J, to my eye, it seemed to be much whiter. I preferred the flashes from it as well. But... if the left, the I, was the less expensive one and better suited to your budget... my loyalties would flip accordingly!

(Decisions like these are hard. I'm always thinking that I should have picked the other, from whichever I decide on!)

Both are beauitful. #2 seems brighter and seems to have more fire to me as well. Good luck deciding!

Hey there! I was looking at them and think I would choose the same one. Lovely stone! Its after the fact, but is it just an illusion or did the oval (left) stone look a little wonky (like there was something missing from the upper right hand corner of the stone). If you pause the video at 1:20, you can see it. Definitely made a great choice! Congrats! Can't wait to see the finished piece. :wink2:

I did take another look at the video, and I think on 1.22 gets tilted again and shows that nothing is missing. The close up picture does show what i guess is some abrasion on the right upper corner., i think that it's acceptable and expected in OMCs :).

I caution you against buying a stone with only the limited guarantee ::) ETA: To be clear, because it means no tradesies. Since you are buying at retail, reselling if you change your mind could be difficult. Also, this one does not look anything like haven's in my opinion, if that is what you are after.

Dreamer,
Your concerns are very appreciated. Here is my reasoning for going with that stone:
1. For a couple of years I'm trading in stones with GOG hoping to settle with each option. However, i clearly have preference to genuine old cuts and AVCs and AVRs just did not do it for me. I still had the I SI2 AVR unset in my jewelry box and did not even think about setting it. For me trading in an AVR for OMC was an excellent option that Jon offered. I was still able to use the funds I already paid to GOG and to have a diamond that looks amazing (you saw the video) without me stocking ebay looking for a needle in a haystack.
2. Jon asked what my preferences in old cuts are and I asked him to source an OMC with tiny facets around 1 carat size and within I-J color grade. He came back only few days later with those two options, where the J stone was exactly something that I was looking for in terms of facets pattern and the I one looked interesting and did remind of the Heaven's stone. However one of the reason's I love old cuts is that each one is unique, so I'm not after finding one exactly like Heaven's :).
3. Since Jon sourced those stones from the outside I understand why they covered only by Limited guarantee. I think that 10 days will be enough for me to make a decision.
And finally, even though I do like to upgrade once in a while, I want to be happy with what I have now. I think that this J OMC can help me to achieve that. I am already planning how I'm going to set it, and it makes me happy. :)

Good luck, InnaR! When do you get the stone? It sounds like you're very sure and that's great! If you did want to take a look at both in person and then decide, it's a $500 deposit each to get both sent to an appraiser near you, just an idea in case you do have any doubts.

I get mine tomorrow from GOG and can't wait! And it's so much fun to have your own video up so you can look at it at any time in the future. :)

Well, good luck then ::) I hope you love it.

I think you will be very happy with the square cut cushion. The old cuts have so much "personality". Can't wait to see your ring when it is finished.
