I’ve been part of PS for quite some time now, and it’s funny how certain moments stay with you. I still remember when diamond pavé bands seemed to be the wedding ring of choice - delicate, glittering halos of light wrapped around fingers.

But then came that beautiful moment in history: the royal wedding of Prince William and Catherine, now our Princess of Wales. I remember so clearly how her simple, elegant gold band sat alongside that iconic sapphire engagement ring. There was something so quietly powerful about it - the contrast of warm yellow gold against cool sapphire and platinum. It wasn’t just beautiful; it told a story. A story of heritage, of tradition, of love enduring through generations. That’s when I fell in love with mixed metals, with contrast, with the poetry of opposites.

And lately, I’ve noticed more and more PS’ers embracing the timeless romance of solid 18k and 22k gold wedding bands, often antique, often carrying whispers of lives and loves before ours.

So I thought, why not share in this quiet love together? Show me your golden bands, your precious stacks - those little circles that tell our biggest stories. I can’t wait to see them.

I’ll start by sharing mine. In fact, it was my dear bling sister, @lulu_ma who helped me find this little treasure. It’s a 22k gold band with English hallmarks for London, dated 1916-1917. Sadly, the maker’s mark has worn away with time, its history softly blurred, but it also bears the curious stamp 181-9.

What makes it even more special? It was a size 8 (but fits more like an 8.5) a true Cinderella moment for me, she was the perfect fit.

There’s something about holding a piece like this knowing it’s witnessed over a century of love stories before joining mine, that makes it feel all the more precious.

Now, I can’t wait to see yours.

My wedding band is a plain 18 kt yellow gold band (it weighs over 6 grams) and it has a round 3 mm profile...sorry for the poor poor quality pictures,I took them with my mobile.

I have always loved a plain gold band paired with an engagement ring! Just such a lovely look!

I do too. After seeing the royals do it. That was the first time. And now I'm seeing it more. It is so lovely.

Love your band and how you've stacked it! That dome and heft :kiss2:. It looks so comfortable too hehehe. Thank you for sharing.

My wedding band was custom made by my local jeweller in 2010; he also made my husband's wedding band which is 18 kt yg but with oval profile (3 mm width, 2 mm height, 6 g weight).
We like our wedding bands because they're modest and very comfortable.

Mine is antique 18k yg. Engraved April 10, 1920. It’s a very warm gold, closer in tone to 22k than modern 18k. Mine is about 2.3mm, size 10.5 so really a unicorn! I love it paired with my five stone. The antique gold matched DKs “antique” gold perfectly.

Did you use antique gold for the cluster and how well does it match the true antique band in color?

Lol I'm a bit embarrassed about this. @Mreader advised to go 18k but unfortunately due to budget constraints lol I went with 14k antique gold.

Here is the difference. I don't notice it too much as the cluster takes up a majority of the real estate. If I ever reset not due to the gold but due to the prongs then I'll consider it then. But probably unlikely hahaha.

I love this! And what a rare band you've found in your size too. These bands in larger sizes are so hard to find. I love how perfectly it matches your 5 stone. Just perfection.

Wow yeah 14k is a whole different beast. I wonder how my antique 18k compares to 22k?

Yeah it was so lucky. And it cost like $350 whereas I was quoted 1k+ for a new one. I watched it for a long time but I suppose the market of people with size 10.5 who want a 2mm band is small lol lucky for me it was still around when I was ready to buy. I haven’t seen another one ever!

I don’t remember giving this advice  . Your cluster is amazing irregardless!!

I'll take a photo with my 18k antique band and see how it goes for comparison. But yes the 22k is very rich..

I love this. A real Cinderella piece then. And you got it for a deal which is even better.

Haha remember when you talked to me about that ring you got done in 14k that you regret not doing 18k but that's a whole other story.. but I'm still on the same boat as you and not doing anything about it lol.

Every time I do a project I toy with going 14k to save money. But it only ever turns out to be a difference of a few hundred and I’ve never regretted sticking to 18k and plat for my special pieces. Maybe if I have many rings it would add up, or if I wanted the softer gold color. But I like rich yellow!!

I wish I was disciplined like you. It was just a very stretched time financially. Lol my HG stone went over budget, then baby K's setting took a majority of setting budget haha leaving nothing for my cluster. Oh well we live and learn.
Lesson learnt is not to have too many expensive projects going at once lol.

So here are the bands.. it's a bit hard to compare as some are textured.

Here are the gold rings...

RIGHT! This one haha which is a lot of gold. I was stupidly being cheap and now I can show my embarrassment lol but to be fair I don’t stack w my 22k but I will do it now to show the difference :wall:

You're welcome @peppermintpatty

Lol we were both cheap @Mreader and our rings look fine.. it's only noticeable if we're stacking it with 22k gold. So it's cheaper for us not to wear that stack i.e don't wear our ring with the 22k band rather than resetting our ring lol.

@maryjane04 I’ve made other decisions to save money on bling projects I regretted no doubt. Selling some items I particularly regret as years later who remembers that $500 or $1000 anyway?

14k gold is a a lovely soft gold color and certainly not “cheap” lol though I’m sad you and @Mreader regret the choice, even if it’s just a little pang now and then.

Those antique golds are all so different @maryjane04 ! Mine is most like the warmest one, the engraved band. I imagine the particular alloy mixes were not so standardized then.

White gold is gold too! Antique 18k white gold is a strange thing. Deep gunmetal grey and usually not played at all. I like it better than modern white gold. Here is my antique 18k Belais band, another rare find in my large size.

@Dreamer_D I don't have too much regret and I love that ring and wear it all the time haha - just every now and then kick myself for not spending the extra few hundred just as you said. I would not reset it unless I decide to do something totally different with it - but I doubt I will! I love white metal and yellow metal, so I alternate with this set and my soli that is in plat.

Hahaha @Dreamer_D thank you so much. When I was playing with all my gold rings together I felt very rich HAHAHAHA. But yeah I don't have too much regret either and all I really wanted to see are diamonds not the gold anyway and the cluster is just that.

The 18k antique white gold band looks amazing. I love that it's got a patina and the blossoms look perfect. Someone did treasure this ring before it came to you. Thank you for sharing.

22k flower band next to 18k band. I have switched almost all of my jewelry to 22-24k gold and cannot go back

I'm wearing a 24k band with my old cut band today. It's a modern band from Cevherun. You can really see the difference in color between the 18k on the underside of the band and the 24k.
