We went to a well-known soup dumpling place, not expensive but not the cheapest Chinese restaurant either. We always talk about how ridiculous it was that we were both so fumbling and bumblingly nervous to eat on our ''first date'' after having eaten literally thousands of meals together as friends

gosh...is it pathetic that i honestly cannot remember our first ''dinner date'' where he actually took me out?

Same here! I remember our first date, which was going to Rocky Horror Picture Show, but I can''t remember the first place we had a dinner date.

No, iirc, we had slices and Cokes at a dive pizza place.

A first date in a pricey/formal restaurant seems like it would be a bit awkward, anyway, doesn't it?

The first time we went out to eat, it was lunch at a midrange California cuisine type place. The first dinner date, he had paid me a surprise visit after work. I was super sick, had just gotten a terrible haircut and it was raining cats and dogs, not the best time for a spectacular date. I think we went to a small, casual sushi place a few blocks away and I tried really hard to be charming, but it was hard with those circumstances. LOL.

Our first dinner date he took me to Il Fornaio in Sacramento, pricing is mid-range. As soon as we sat down he said "Don''t you dare order the least expensive thing on the menu" and I turned bright red because that is exactly what I was going to do.

Such a cute story!

I remember this so well, we met at Isabella''s on the Upper West Side, NYC for cocktails, but it quickly turned into dinner- the conversation was so great, we just didn''t want it to stop so ... oh let''s have dinner, so we got a table..

Our relationship evolved slowly from best friends into "more"... but I guess for our first official date as a couple, yes, he did take me to a really nice restaurant.

Our first dinner date was at my house. It was my birthday and I cooked enough food for an army even though there were only four of us. He ate like he hadn''t eaten in weeks.

No we were 16 and went out to a diner...... gosh that was such a great date we talked for hours

.....off to reminisce

Yes, we went to a tiny Italian restaurant in Newport RI and had a lovely dinner. And then I got food poisoning!

Oh no, that''s horrible!

The next day while reflecting on the evening (throwing up and other fun stuff all night) I realized that I still had an amazing time. That''s one of the moments when my intuition told me there might be potential with my now DH.

I can''t remember. I do not think we ever went out on a dinner date. The first time we went out we went to a pub type place and he kept giving me shots. Real classy, I know

Then we went places together, but never a dinner date. I made him take me on a date once a year or two ago because I had never been on one and it was terrible. The service was spotty and the food was expensive and tasteless. Now we go on dinner dates nearly every night in our own kitchen where the food is so much better and we do not have to tip.

Well, if you count our first official date, which was out for afternoon tea, then yes. He took me to Betty''s in York, which is fabulous and amazing, and a bit pricey. That''s probably the most expensive meal we''ve ever been out for. We usually opt for good & cheap.

We were mostly about concerts and clubs.
But a "splurge" meal at that time would have to have been Sizzler
steak house.
Years later we took our son there. He left his
retainer in his napkin but luckily we retrieved it that evening.
Ahhh memories

no..first date we met up with other friends at a bar (my choice--I was big on low pressure 1st dates). 2nd date we did dinner and went for sushi at medium priced place. We discovered we both loved sushi so it was a logical choice! Although now I know that he really doesn''t love sushi that much and was just going along with what seemed like a good segway into 2nd date.

Ah Isabella''s, how great! And I love how things unfolded--sounds like a Meg Ryan movie :))!

something about this just warms my heart, HH. :) very sweet.

On our first dinner date almost 2 years ago, my now FI arrived from an 8 hour flight, to have dinner with me and 20 of my nearest and dearest friends for my 26th bday at the time. He was definitely a trooper! When I realized he could handle all of that, meeting new people while being jetlagged, all for little old me...I realized just how special he was and look at that... we''re now engaged!

our first dinner date as husband and wife? the answer is yes. while we were dating? I would say no (dinner was maybe 60 bucks? it was sushi) He would not however allow me to pay either times.

First meal out? McDonalds. Big spender

. First dinner 'date'... who remembers... oh, wait. I'm supposed to. Well I don't. Someplace in DC... one of three places. We went out A LOT in our first week together. It's all a blur and the food wasn't what I was paying attention to and neither was the bill.

As husband and wife. Or first dinner together as a couple was at our reception. And I remember it well. What does that say about us? We are well and truly married if I can't tell you what we ate with any specificity for our first week together, but could type up a menu of our first meal together as husband and wife. The magic is dead.

Or it could tell you that I spent month planning that one meal as husband and wife down to excruciating detail and that it was catered by a local restuarant that we went to for our first anniversary and had the same meal at. So... magic is still alive. Well, it has a pulse anyway.
