Girdle thickness question...

Hi guys, I''ve been lurking the forums for a few weeks as I get ready to get an engagement ring. I have learned a ton of things already, and I think I found a diamond I like, but there is one factor that is making me hesitate.

The diamond I''m looking at is a round brilliant, 1.5ct, and it checks out with a 1.0 on the HCA. However, looking at the certificate, it was measured as having a girdle that is "Thin to slightly thick" measured as .7% to 2.6%.

I haven''t seen many diamonds vary that much, would this be an issue? I searched to see if anyone else had posted a question like this, but didn''t find exactly what I was looking for.

Is this an acceptable range?

Will having a range that wide negatively affect the setting? Or is this really not a big deal and I should just shut up and get it?

Thin to Medium or Medium to Slightly Thick are sometimes cited as ideal girdle size ranges. This isn''t that far off. Thin - slightly thick will not be a threat to the structural integrity of the diamond. You want to avoid thin - very thin because this makes the diamond susceptible to damage. Ask for a sarin or helium report and check the variance if you are concerned about symmetry.

You only really need to avoid very thin or very thick. Any other combo is considered acceptable.

I am guessing this is a AGS graded stone on BN?

There is no way a 2.6% girdle is graded as slightly thick, that is still in the thin range, BN has some problem with the conversion.

Yep, I had looked at the ranges and I had thought that both .7 and 2.6 were in the thin range, so I was confused as to how they came up with thin to slightly thick.

Thats the best thread for girdle thickness conversion I find and yes BN do seem to have a glitch with translating girdle thickness from percents. The girdle in question is absolutely fine.
