Hi all, I''m hoping you may have some thoughts about this situation. I have a 2+ ct daussi cushion cut solitaire on a micropave band which I sent out for rezising a few weeks ago. The diamond is rated VS1. When I first received it I scrutinized it, took a lot of photos and it was eye clean to me. I got it back last night and noticed a dark grey horizontal band about 2/3 the way down on the diamond face up. It is not visible from any other angle. Perhaps I didn''t notice it initially but I have a hard time accepting that I would not pick up on such an obvious flaw. I also looked through a number of photos taken when I first received the ring and it looked totally clean face up. I did my research on PS and realized this most likely is a girdle reflection. What concerns me is that it wasn''t apparent before the ring was resized and I can see it face up on the diamond, not at an angle (which apparently can affect that clarity of the diamond as mentioned in older posts). The ring was sized from a 6 to a 4.5. Is there any way the resize could have altered the setting in such a way that this reflection would be more obvious? I don''t have a photo of my diamond to show you but I was able to find a similar line on another daussi diamond I found online. I outlined it as below. I would really appreciate your advice. Thanks.

girdle reflection affecting the clarity grade? I haven''t heard that one before...

a resize of the ring will not affect the visibility of a girdle reflection.

It's probably just something you either didn't notice before or wasn't there because . . . diamonds are little boxes of mirrors and windows.

How they look, and what you see in them, changes when their environment or the lighting changes.

Enjoy your beautiful ring.

Hi cliniquelove

Just to clarify, can you see this area at close inspection only and does it disappear when the diamond is held away from the body? Can you see this effect running all the way around the centre of the diamond or just as a small patch similar to the photo? I don't think it is a girdle reflection, nor would resizing itself suddenly make this appear.

Firstly are you sure the diamond is scrupulously clean?

looks more like leakage.
Put something red behind it and see if you see the red through the diamond.

Daussi cushions are cut quite shallow and have a lot of obstruction and leakage issues. From the picture you have shown the dark areas are definitely this rather than any inclusions. The fact you say it looks grey is even more evidence that the color you are seeing is likely the metal below and areas of leakage. How high the diamond is set can effect the appearance of this reflection from underneath but its more than likely you just didn''t notice it before, jewelry lights hide flaws.
