Hi, my favorite aunt is turning 70 and I’d like to gift her something special. I have less than a month to get it ready and ship it over seas.

It’s hard to pick as she’s at an age where she has everything and she also has a fabulous collection. She loves Cartier watches and vintage jewelry. I’ve seen her sport a white gold Baignoire watch with diamonds and a vintage white Chanel camellia ring made of resin.

She was the aunt that gifted me my first ever Tiffany co necklace growing up (Paloma Picasso in silver) and then many watches - two tone panthere, yellow gold cougar, chopard 5 diamond watch.

I have a chunky five stone ring (40 pointers each) made with IDJ and thought about resetting into a diamond by the yard necklace as she’s into farming and wood working lately. Or resizing the ring to her size - which I don’t know so it would sort of ruin the surprise.

But I don’t know if the diamond by the yard is substantial enough for a woman in her 70s. Or make it into 7 stones to mark her 70th. Or 6 stones as they are 6 siblings and my oldest aunt just passed away. however - I’ve never really seen her wear like diamond solitaire pieces or large diamond anything. She’s designed plenty of rings with diamonds but they’re usually more intricate in design rather than just diamonds.

I also considered an Elsa peretti bottle necklace like a full circle moment. She could put a flower in there from her farm or she may not wear it lol. I don’t think she meets people as often as she used to. I’m really stuck here. Would appreciate ideas. Past gifts she’s enjoyed would be a bottle of creed perfume , Burberry hydrangea scarf and a coffee table book filled with images of the royal gardens. I’d like to spend around 1k or less ideally.

TIA!

It sounds like she has strong jewelry tastes which obviously can make it hard to give a gift. It may not feel special enough for such a big occasion, but maybe a really lovely Tiffany or luxury watch coffee table book with a heartfelt letter would go full circle and be just as appreciated. If she's into woodworking, you could also look for a handmade wooden or antique jewelry box or similar.... Obviously we're all feeling inspired by @lavenderdragonfly23's find.

As for appropriateness of a DBTY for her age, I'll leave that to the PSers who are more in that age range! But 40 pointers would be very substantial. Would she want you to dismantle your ring, though?

Thank you for the suggestions. I think she would enjoy a heartfelt letter and good luxury book :)
