I was talking to a friend who is a wholesaler and he was saying that the GIA has loosened its Standards ever so slightly this year. Has anyone heard about this? I''m looking at a couple of VS2 stones, and he said that they could possibly been SI stones. He said this because I faxed him some GIA certs and he thought the diagrams looked like SI stones when in fact they were graded VS2.

Thanks for your opinions!!

It's hard to tell inclusions from a plot because sometimes they may look more like an SI but in actuality the inclusion is so small that its a VS. If you look at some SI stones, their plots look like some VS stones I have seen...but the difference is the size of the inclusion and it's visibility depending on grade and angle.

I would not rely on the advice of a friend who saw faxes of a chart...get an independent appraisal to be sure. Plus fax machines always throw all sorts of marks on the paper...who knows what sort of picture your friend got on the other end.

I have not seen that GIA is #1, maybe he has a lot of EGL certs he needs to push

Also I would like to make a dime for everybody that calls them self a wholesaler
