Donna Baker resigned from her position as GIA President (https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/donna-baker-gia-president-resigns.190400/?onlytrade=true). I’m not surprised. I went to an atrocious experience with the GIA while she was serving as president. The GIA lab committed a gross malfunction in grading a very important diamond that belongs to my family. They were aware of the situation and they communicated with me in the matter. The other day, I went on the GIA website to conduct a report-search in order to download the so-called report that they claimed were the findings that belong to my stone. The search result gave the following "We can’t find anything that matches your search “00000000000” Please try again." I called the GIA about that and they could not find the report in their archive. I removed the report number for privacy reasons.

Were you able to get it regraded?

OP are you the same person that had a facebook campaign or something about your families stone? You took it to a NY appraiser who wanted you to take it to GIA for grading, or something like that? I think I remember a thread about this a year or more ago?

The stone that I submitted to them was never graded. Someone at the lab graded another stone and provided the report for that stone; the report has now disappeared from their data.

Did you get your diamond back?

No, the lab has it. In fact, I do not know what they did with the stone that I originally submitted to them. I was offered another stone in return including a report with it. Now this report isn't in their archive. They have my original stone and the other stone in their possession since I never picked it up.

My goodness, that is terrible!

How will you get it back? I hope you have proof it is yours!

I'm sorry, are you intentionally not responding to my question? This sounds very similar to another thread where the poster had images of a stone returned to them by GIA. The picture included captions of what they believed were inconsistencies between the stone returned and the original. The owner then returned the stone to GIA demanding the return of their stone and refusing delivery of the stone that was returned to them initially. Is this you??? Also if IIRC, you had no documentation supporting your claims that they did in fact return the wrong diamond....no appraisal, no before photos of the diamond, no grading report from another lab or other verifiable documentation. I apologize if I have you confused with someone else, the other poster made references to an important family stone as well, but it's hard to believe that this could happen in two separate incidences within the same lab.

ETA: I'm having trouble locating the original thread, but I'll continue to look.

I have never had a thread before this saying anything about the GIA. I stumbled over the resignation of Donna Baker and that prompted me to start this thread about my experience with them when she was president.

Fair enough. :)) Thank you. If you haven't started a thread about this at any other time under another name then you may find the thread that I'm referencing interesting, however I'm having difficulty locating it.
