Perhaps this was asked before, besides the aesthetics of the report, does one of the above have a higher standard than the other? Are they really the same? thanks.
AGS provides additional proportions (crown & pavilion) on the diamond that GIA doesn't. These are crucial in order to run the stone through the cut advisor and for that reason, I prefer AGS.
They are both known to be highly reputable labs. Remember, color and clarity grading are somewhat subjective, and both have a reputation for strictness (so they won't call a borderline "H" a "G", etc.).
AGS offers the crown and pavilion angles and a cut quality grade, which the GIA does not, so its certificates are more useful if you are buying a stone sight-unseen.
Big one, GIA is non-profit, and charges based on carat weight (a measurable and nonsubjective number) and not color, or client...etc. Not sure how AGS charges for reports...? Anyone?
Also GIA is larger, AGS is of course, known for including #'s like crown angles, pavillion angles, etc...Also helpful, but mostly for RBs...
