I know the GIA is a renowned institute and the AGS are expertise in particular cuts I believe? But I wanted to know if one was any better than the other?
What I can add is the AGS Gold report and the GIA report are very similar in the way the report is set up.
The AGS Platinum report has more information about the diamond, the most obvious is an ASET image on the report.
As far as grading color and clarity, the two are right in line with each other and more strict than the other labs, such as EGL and IGI. AGS has a little tighter parameters to earn its highest cut grade for rounds and is the only major lab including a light performance rating (on the Platinum reports). It is also the only major lab issuing cut grades for princess and now ovals. The other thing I like about AGS reports is that they do less rounding of the numbers than GIA--for example, on round brilliants, GIA rounds the crown angle to the nearest 1/2 degree, while AGS rounds to the nearest 1/10.
