I need some help with this. First of all what does it mean on the GIA report when it says additional inscription? Secondly, I picked my diamond up from being set last night and can only see partial letters of number. Can the whole number be under one prong? It is like 10 digets long? I know it is the correct diamond tho because of the inclusion. Any help with either question would be appreciated.

The inscriptions are pretty small. Yes, the entire thing can be obscured. It's good habit for setters to look for the inscriptions and set stone so that they are still visible. They may have missed it and they may have some reason, like they were trying to hide something else like an inclusion. Ask 'em.

'Additional inscription' normally means that something is inscribed other than the GIA number, like a brand logo or personal message.

The GIA number is there I am sure but the additional insciption is another number that starts with the letter A. Any idea what it might be.

why don't you post the grading report here? It would help clarify things.

I have a GIA graded diamond, and I have a loupe with 20X magnification. I am only able to see the last five or six numbers on the laser inscription as the rest is covered by a prong. These numbers are extremely difficult to see, and I had to spend a lot of time and effort at it. Good luck.

It's possible that the diamond has multiple reports, it could be an upgraded stone that had a report from another lab and the vendor decided to send it to GIA for grading, or it could be that the stone was submitted to multiple labs for grading and sold with the report that netted the largest profit for the vendor. It's also possible that a previous purchasers had a name or a date inscribed.
