GIA Laser Inscription Registry

Is there any way to check to make sure that the laser inscription on a diamond is one that was authentically done by GIA? It sure would be nice if you could just go to some part of the GIA website, pop in your insciption number and have it tell you all about your diamond.

I sound like I want to be living in the Age of Information ... wait, that is what I''m living in.
