GIA introduces Proprietary Cut Report

E63C52C3-EC03-46CC-AE46-7225CCB4B346.jpeg @Rockdiamond Hi! My stones came back from GIA and you are correct.. the clarity and color changed by one grade. I am surprised though that GIA graded them higher. I had read GIA is more strict with their grading so I thought for sure my stones would come back from GIA worse than the AGS grade.

Also, in case any of you are interested, now my stone has two laser inscriptions on it, my original HOF and GIA just added theirs too.
They are now Frankenstein tattoo stones (I have never liked these stones but that’s a whole different thread).

GIA lasered the GIA report number on it, and that is in addition to the HOF laser. I guess they must do that now with all stones they grade as I do not recall asking for the laser. I’ve attached the little mini summary report from GIA and they do make a note in the Inscription section both lasers as FYI but I’m sure you have seen it all in your business. I guess if the stone were a branded cut, that would also be on the girdle too.

Both stones were F, SI2. Now both are E and one is a SI1. I don’t think these little changes are profound though.

I did it out of curiosity and found this very educational for me.

There's another significant variable in your case though - it has been over 15 years since your last grading by the AGS and many suspect that grading standards have been softened overall. You should go ahead and create another thread because I still find it interesting that you dislike the stones so much. Do you prefer the 56 table stone over the 53, and perceive any difference between them?

@blueMA Hi! Yes... very good point on the old AGS report being so old. Maybe AGS would grade it an E also given today's standards. Hmmm... but for consistency, if I were to send them in to AGS, I wonder if they would look up my old grading and just re-stamp it with the exact same grading so to speak. I do not plan to do that ofcourse... it was just a fun exercise for my own knowledge, and I really do not care how they are graded.

On the stones, I left them with the local jeweler to create new mountings. They will be back in a few weeks. You may recall they were in the standard 4-prong platinum basket. Well... since I took the stones out of their mounting, I figured I would play around a bit with mountings. Then when I upgrade and get my new stones, I can just order them up with the mounting I want and be done with it. I really like the 6-prong platinum crown setting that WF did for @diamondseeker2006 . I contacted them and asked if they would custom make a pair for me, but they said no as I did not purchase the stones from them. Bummer.. so... plan B, I asked my local jeweler to build me a 6-prong platinum martini setting as I wanted to try that too. My final mounting will be one of those two, but I really do like @diamondseeker2006 's 6-prong crown mounting.

Once the earrings come back, I'll open a new thread and try to take some decent photos for you to really compare the two, and also against my larger stone.

Look into these as well before you go custom route -

@blueMA Yes, I actually did see those and I still like the V's on the Whiteflash version better. I like the way they do the base.. those V's or U's that come together at the bottom of the prong, the flow is very smooth. But oh well they were not meant to be as they would not make them for me. I'll at least see if I like martinis which I asked to make the little base at the point a little bit bigger so the post would not get pulled into my ear lobe. Thank you! You are so helpful!

Here is a write up with additional clarification... so nothing profound is my opinion. Okay... you have a Crisscut, but the prior GIA report would have most likely stated that already in the comments section.

These are for cuts, so I do not think a branded diamond counts. For example, HOF, ACA, or CBI are just branded diamonds, not special patented cuts, so I don't think they would qualify. Am I correct in that assumption?
