Hello fellow pricescopers :wavey: hope you are well. As a pricescoper I love, no scratch that, am obsessed with all things gems and jewellery. Due to the pandemic, I cannot work and my business has been shut down due to government restrictions. To fill my time, I cook, clean (in my own home) and volunteer at a local charity x2 mornings a week. I always fancied the idea of doing some sort of diamond GIA training, and am wondering whether I could utilize my free time with education instead of panic. Has anyone done the GIA diamonds essentials and or diamonds grading e-learning course? Was it fun? Did you learn much? Just wondering how to constructively use my in isolation time.

There have definitely been people on here who have done GIA training of different sorts but I can't remember who they are... lol

Yes I have done some. It is fun, but pricey. There is a lot of other free learning available online, I will post about it later from my laptop :)

Thanks @pearaffair during lockdown I actually ended up doing the applied jewellery professional diploma with GIA. It was free for the beginner diamond, coloured stones and jewellery basics modules. I received an email yesterday from GIA saying that my diploma is in the mail!!!

Oh good! I'm so glad you saw that!! Have you already seen the free pearls course?

And I love all the talks hosted by Rui. He is so knowledgeable and entertaining!

Thanks for that. I was not aware of the pearls course. I listened to the most wonderfully informative lecture by Rui about the history of Brazilian diamonds, but since I’ve returned to work I’ve not been able to listen to them.

The pearls course is free and supposedly very very good. It's on my list of things to try!

If you felt like joining GemX club, you could watch their amazing interviews: https://www.gemx.club/

And some Rui videos are available recorded:

I’ve been really enjoying the gemx lectures or gemflix I think they call it. When all the crazy is over I think I might try and join my closest chapter. It would be lovely to meet up with gem enthusiasts and handle fabulous jewellery

Oh man, what a joy it would be indeed!!

I have taken the Diamond Essentials class, it’s basic stuff. Lot’s of the content i knew from what I’ve read on PriceScope. I took the Diamonds and Diamond Grading Course. I really liked that and learned more. The final is a proctored exam which i passed. I was rather nervous about it! Now Im taking the Colored Stones Essential Course. Again, i think it’s beginner stuff, but I’m enjoying it as I don’t know much about colored stones... I am enjoying learning more about what I love!

I finished all the essentials classes recently. I also took the graduate diamonds classes in 2017. I chose the distance learning option, so everything but the lab classes were online. I loved it, especially the hands on lab classes. I would highly recommend it.
