Is an old cert grounds for bargaining down the price?
In other words, to merchants buy diamonds that have certs that are already old, or have these diamonds been sitting in their safe for a while since they were originally purchased and certed?
Usually that is asked because GIA did not used to give cut grades - this only applies to round brilliants though, they still do not give cut grades on other shapes.
An old report does not necessarily mean there is something wrong with a stone - sometimes it is a trade in for another stone, or someone was hard up for money and had to sell what they had. You can always ask to bargain if you want.
Or it could have been floating around for a while. Diamond Vendor to Diamond Vendor. Being called in on Memo. Possibly, sometimes for prospective clients. Could be the clients changed their minds or selected another stone instead.
