does anyone know of a way to determine if the cut is any good just by looking at a GIA cert? I plan on sending the stone for a full work-up, but don''t want to bother sending a dud.
is there a mathematical formula or something form the dimensions and table and depth % to figure out the crown and pavillion angles.
i don''t want to waste my $ appraising a terrible stone.
thanks

Hi,

I am a rank amateur - lots of info here on how to determine what is the best cut etc... but as a quick and dirty way I like to bang in the diamond specs into http://www.gemappraisers.com -> Look under DIY Grading - it will tell you the AGA Grade rating (more info on their site)

Cheers

Sometimes it is possible to say that diamond is not a good cut only based on depth and table, e.g depth 62% and table 60%. Sometimes it is also possible to say that a diamond has very good chance to be ok. However, in many cases it is not possible to be 100% sure

Ah! Leonid! You have resumed your post. I owe you a letter :-). Have fun?
