GIA did not waste any time putting the technology they acqired from AGSL to good use! They now offer an AGS Ideal addendum report for any diamond sent in for a grading report, assuming it qualifies as Ideal. Many people know this is available (especially prosumers here on this forum), but it's news to many people in the broader market (even in the trade).
Still fewer realize that this applies to many fancy shapes as well! Because the light performance based system developed by AGSL can be applied across a wide variety of shapes, this marks a beginning for GIA's foray into fancy cut grading. Where this will eventually go is not known. But what is clear is there is a big need in the market for a cut grade standard for fancies and GIA is uniquely positioned to establish one. Especially now with the acquisition of the AGSL technology and research team.
GIA created a very nice page to educate about their AGS Ideal reports, including a list of the fancy shapes currently included: https://www.gia.edu/ags-ideal-report
I highly recommend checking it out!
