Hi ambo

Going by the Holloway CA score it doesn''t sound too promising, can you post all the info please from the report such as depth, table, angles and so on?

Per Pricescope policies; all photos must be uploaded directly to the forum.

All VEry Goods

depth 62.6
table 58
crown 35.5
pav 41

I told the jeweler keep looking but is this worth $6,500?

What lab graded it?

It’s easy enough to look up what comparable things cost from the dealers here using the diamond pricing tool at the top of the page. Is the $6500 price an offer to sell by some jeweler or something else?

Neil, from the title, I am guess GIA?

Gia graded.

Long story short I already paid for my ring/setting but the EGL stone appraised two grades lower tab I paid for. So he took it back and is finding me a new stone. No more egl garbage.

I paid $8,500 and the setting was $1,500 so I expect a stone worth between $6,500 and $7,000

Not at all commenting on the quality of the diamond...or if you should get it. But just going by GIA, 1.38 ct, round, VG cut/polish/symmetry, G, SI1, $6500 does sound like a good deal.

A comparable one on Blue Nile (1.36 ct, VG/VG/VG, G, SI1), for example, is going for $7,684.

I would not want a leaky stone even if it is a good deal.

DITTO!!

I may find a good deal on a day-glow plaid jacket but it doesn''t mean I would wear it

I had a 1.46 in the setting that I returned. How much of a visual difference will it be from a 1.46 to a, say, 1.25?

Also, the last stone scored a 4.7 on holloway. Eesh! So I presume a Gia vs1 G 1.25 ex/ex/ex will look noticibly better than a egl 1.46 f i1 vg/vg/vg, yea?

most likely. Also, face up dimensions is important not just the weight. Heavier stone to not equal a stone with a larger diameter.

This stone will look small for the weight because of the high crown and deep pavilion, making the overall diameter smaller, coupled with the leakage present, making it looks optically even smaller.

Yea this stone is out of the question. He''s going to get more for me. I''ll update this thread as I get them.

I appreciate the advice guys! I propose in 2 weeks! :D

Good luck. :)

Ok, keep us posted and we will do what we can to help!

UPDATE:

Ok guys. He's trying to get his hands on a:

GIA
1.20 carat
F
VS2
Ex/Vg/Ex
scored a 1.8 on the HCA

I'll hopefully be getting the cert emailed to me very shortly so I can have more info on it.

Is the above a deal for around $6,500-7,000? I like the HCA score that it got along with the price range.

Also, how much of a size difference will this look compared to the original stone I had in the setting?

Original: EGL 1.46 F/G I1 (Vg/Vg/Vg) scored 4.7 HCA
New: GIA 1.20 F VS2 (Ex/Vg/Ex) scored 1.8 HCA

Thanks,
Eric

Can you post the GIA report number?

EDT:
What is the diameter measurement of the 1.38c GIA stone?

It''s possible when he emails me the cert.

What do you need it for?

This has nothing to do with the 1.38 anymore. That stone is long forgotten as it was not a very good stone.

Well, you want to compare how small it is from what? You need a reference.

What is the diameter of the EGL stone then?

OH! I get it. I got confused because the EGL stone was a 1.46, not a 1.38.

The EGL stone was:

7.16 - 7.10 x 4.50 mm
Depth: 63.1%
Table: 61%
Crown: 15%
Pav: 43%

The new one I don''t have dimensions on just yet.

From the GIA report:

Measurements: 6.76 - 6.80 x 4.13 mm
Carat Weight: 1.20 carat
Color Grade: F
Clarity Grade: VS2
Cut Grade: Very Good

Proportions:
Depth: 60.9%
Table: 60%
Crown Angle: 34.0°
Crown Height: 13.5%
Pavilion Angle: 40.8°
Pavilion Depth: 43.0%
Star length: 50%
Lower Half: 75%
Girdle: Thin to Thick, Faceted (4.5%)
Culet: None
Finish:
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None

If the new stone is cut near ideal proportion, should be about 6.85mm. So you are looking at a reduce diameter of 0.25mm.

It''s going to be about a .3-.4mm difference. I wonder how much of a difference that is to the naked eye.

ya, maybe visible unmounted. Mounted will be more visible. It is in the VG cut grade because of a thick in the girdle variation hiding some weight there. Numbers look good.

But none-the-less the stone looks to be a nice, clean stone numbers-wise, yea?

And being GIA helps me feel more confident to be able to go by numbers and certs before taking the time to go look at the diamond.

However, number wise, what price should this stone be going for?

Perfect. Sounds right up my alley price wise.

I hate my brother. He got an EGL 1.27 F VS2 (appraised F VS2 by a GIA certified appraiser) with a custom setting with .5 carats for $7k

He got lucky with his EGL, me on the other hand, did not.
