Hi,

I''m sure most of you know my story by now, but I have 2 trade ins that equal $5k, which I need to use to help me towards my upgrade. So, I''m kind of stuck at a mall jeweler.

problem is, as we all know, is that their prices are much higher. They showed me a princess cut , 1.51, H color, SI, .....can''t remeber what original price was, but the "sale" price was $9600. Then minus my trade put me at about $5,000. Well, I did a search for similair diamonds, and I did find a bunch from $5,500-$8,000.

So, I feel like why give them my $5k, trade ins, when I can just pay WF the $5k anyways????
BUT, I dont really care to keep the rings I have now......and I''d really love to be able to use them as a trade.

So, how do I get them to come down to earth and be real about their prices? SHould I print out my search results and show them what I can get that same diamond for? How do I respond when they laugh at me and say, you are going to buy a diamond online? what are you nuts????

help me!

ain''t gonna happen. you need to get out of the trap while you can. don''t keep buying into it!
you know you can get a better diamond online for a much (much) better price. you need to start over, forget the chain store ''trade'' trap, bite the bullet and get a better diamond for your $$$.

I understand.....what do you suggest I do with my current rings??? I do not have any sentiment attached to them.

I would try to sell them elsewhere to recoup some of your losses on that. Anytime you have a trade in, negotiate the price of the item first, then show your hand with the trade. That''s what I was taught about cars. Otherwise you just end up paying closer to list.

thanks Shay, yes, I did do that....almost knocked the man to ground, lol.
thanks

as shay suggested, your best bet is to try and sell them elsewhere. you are not going to get anywhere near the inflated trade values the chain store is offering, so don''t even expect it.

I agree with the others. I think selling them on your own is your best bet. There are a couple of Pricescope vendors who might take them on a trade but I doubt you''ll get anywhere near the offer the chain store gave you, but every little bit would help

Sell to a seller and the seller must sell to the buyer and make a profit.

Cut out the middleman.

Sell to the person who is going to wear it.

It will take a long time and be a lot of trouble but otherwise you lose half your money.

Can you make something else out of them? Necklace? earrings?

You could also try a jewlery consignment store. They may take a while to sell, but you will get closer to what you want

Can you post a picture and a description of the set you have now so we can get a better idea of its value, and whether you would be better off selling it through a consignment store, or maybe through a personal ad (I''ve seen that, too), or even E-bay? A lot will depend on its style. I myself am partial to the idea of using the stones for other jewelry, but with some styles such as pave, it''s obviously not the way to go.
