getting a little nervous about a K

I chose a K stone for my e-ring that bf should be buying within the next month or two. I went to look at rings, but the store did not have any available to see. Now I''m wondering if I should go with a smaller stone in a higher color. I did ask the man at the store if I should be concerned about having a K center stone and a wedding band with H stones (which he said most of the stones are) and he said no. What do you think? I didn''t want the store to order in Ks for me to see since I''m not buying my e-ring from them.

I would only be concerned with a K color IF it is not well cut otherwise you will see some warmth. Do you like warmth in a diamond? its not going to be icy white more like antique white, but here is a thread to help show the difference in color possibly, although you cannot guage from the internet really the true color, but could help ease your mind a little. I've never seen any stones lower than an H IRL. The stone I want is an AGS triple 0 and scores a 1.4-1.5 on the HCA (I forgot the exact figure). The idealscope pictures look good too. So, I'm assuming it's pretty well cut. The setting is the Tiffany knife style with platinum head and yellow gold band. I guess I'm just disappointed that I have not been able to see any IRL, which makes me nervous.

is it returnable if you don''t like it? I have a triple AGS0 K as well, and I really love it. There are a few ladies here that have Ks set in platinum/ white gold. I usually dont see any stones IRL either at even high end jewelers, they tell me that they don''t usually stock under I usually, but there are a few occasions that they stock lower color stones (which I''ve seen a K asscher before

The stone is from Whiteflash Expert selection. I believe that you have 30 days to return it.

I haven''t seen a K but seen J and L. They definetly have a hint of yellow or warmth (whatever we chose to call it). However, a well cut K will appear whiter than a not so well cut stone. I know it is all words here but in real life ... what a difference!

My EC is an L color and [I think] it looks great - particularly when I have a tan! It is posted in the L and lower color thread [among others]. I think that the L looks better on me than the F in the summer. LOL!

What is your skin tone and undertone. Knowing that may help you make a decision. [BTW, I think that people that have yellow or olive undertones - or darker skin - can pull off the lower colors than somebody with pink undertones.]

I never thought about it. I'm a medium color, not light but not dark. I'm probably about the color of Beyonce (maybe a little lighter). I think that's why I love yellow gold so much, it's looks so good with my skin tone.

Here are photos of a K/L (top/left) and an F (bottom/right). They''re both old cuts--the K/L is an OEC and the F is a transitional cut--so your K will probably look whiter than my K/L. (It was appraised in the setting, so the appraiser called it K/L, but he said it was probably closer to L.) To me the difference is visible but not dramatic.

I would not hesitate to get a K in an antique stone. I think you''ll have to see the stone you are considering in person to know how you feel about it.

Sounds like a beautifully cut K will be perfect! [BTW, the baguettes on my EC, which is set in platinum, are very white and they look fine.]

I have a K color diamond. It''s not ideal cut (though amazingly fiery and brilliant) and it''s a pretty good size, 2.70 ct. The larger the stone, the more color it holds. It still looks wonderful, but I can see the difference between it and the tiny J color sidestones, but mostly from the side. It faces up very white most of the time. And even when you can see the color, it''s still gorgeous! Given that you''re getting an ideal cut you should be alright. What size are you looking at?

I have a 1.5 ct J rb (excellent cut ) surrounded by 4 - .2ct rbs (G/H- 2 on each side) and my wedding band is a 5 stone - 1 ct tw (K/L ) both set in yellow gold and I don't see any hint of color. I literally get complimented constantly!

I have a 1ct. K color, H&A pendant. Yes, I can see the color, and yes, it bothers me. But as you can see, many people here own these stones and love them. In fact, I love my K too. It''s a beautiful stone, but I still can''t get over the color.

Just so you know, color sensitive or not, it won''t look colorless. You either have to embrace the color, or you''ll always second guess yourself.

I think you are going ADORE your beautiful new diamond! It''s a great size, and it should be a little fireball and blow most other diamonds you will see IRL out of the water!

I think it is important to remember that color is not "bad", it just "is". The exact chemical make-up of diamonds in the higher colors is (apparently) more rare... thus = more expensive. This tends to make us think they are "better" diamonds. But is this really true? Does this make them more *beautiful* diamonds? Not in my opinion. I LOVE all well-cut stones, from D on down, babeee!

I agree that these rings are beautiful Glitterata! They are both beautiful color stones in their own way!

You might want to consider having the stone shipped to you to look at before they set it. Your stone is nicely cut and will be beautiful but color is purely a personal choice. Lower colors have a hint of warmth which some people like and others don''t. Some people don''t notice the color and others notice it and actually like it. But since an ering is so important it would be best to love your stone rather than look at it and wish you had picked something different.
