I am just a Layperson and not a GG or jeweller so i will just post the details i know.
The centre stone is 0.90 ct and the side stones are o.05 ct each bringing it to a whole 1 carat. L/M colour( champagne) and SI clarity.Measures 16mm across and 6mm down. its of english origin. Its not a huge stone but sparkles beautifully ,its closed backed( a minus i guess
Many of those Georgian diamonds are rose cuts--flat on the bottom, dome-like facets on top--but this looks more like an old mine cut, maybe? I think I see a flat facet on top and a culet showing through.
The closed back was done on purpose. Back then the old cuts let lots of light leak through, especially rose cuts. Backing the diamond with shiny silver would make it much brighter and whiter looking. The downside is that it's hard to clean and the backing often tarnished over time.
Anyway, gorgeous ring! Please tell us more about it.
Oh what a beautiful old ring! Is that a rose cut, or an Old Mine Cut? It''s hard to tell from this angle. Can you post more pictures (including hand shots)!!!!
