Georgian Brooch with "rutilated" diamonds?

Hello,
I recently purchased a lovely little brooch with the understanding that the stones are diamonds. However... The stones have very distinct black lines!! Is this a problem with the foil backing or are they not diamonds. I will try to have it tested, but being in southern France in August, I may not find a jeweler open. I hope some of the experts will chime in. Until they do...

I haven’t seen diamonds with long crystalline needles like that. Most heavily included diamonds I’ve seen have more of a salt and pepper look.

I have seen several forms of “rutilated quartz” that looks like that, including some “Herkimer diamonds” (which are actually quartz).

If you paid diamond prices and are within the return period, it would be worth your while to hunt out an open jewelry store or pawn shop to get the stones tested - or to buy a diamond tester online.

The brooch is absolutely beautiful, by the way!

It’s looks like rutilated quartz or maybe the foil is messed up. Very interesting looking, please let us know what a jeweler says once you find one
