I read about Geoffrey''s in San Carlos, CA here on PS. I decided to try it out. This jeweler is located above a Chinese restaurant that has a glowing orange neon sign over it. You access the store via an open air concrete stairway. It does not look like Tiffany''s. At this point you''re not sure if you''re feeling good about it - but press on.

I gave them a 1.29 princess solitaire in platinum and asked it to be sized up from 5.25 to 5.5. I just picked it up today, which is 2 weeks later. Excellent job! You cannot see a thing where they sized it, they polished it so nicely and it looks like a brand new ring. In fact, it looks better than when I first got it cause they fixed some small things about the polish that I didn''t even ask them to fix. They charged me very little for this work and they polished my platinum wedding band for free.

Plus they are totally nice people with lots of pretty items to view while you are waiting and they seem to have a genuine passion for what they are doing and for jewelry in general.

This worked out and I found it here - thanks PS!

Glad your local jewelry store experience was a good one and that you didn''t judge the book by its cover

"This jeweler is located above a Chinese restaurant that has a glowing orange neon sign" reminded me about the famous

singer Bobby Darin who supposedly took his stage name from a Chinese restaurant sign with the word "Mandarin" in neon and shortened it

to "Darin." At least, that''s the story that was told.
