I'm having a hard time conceptualizing where one end and the other begins... It's my understanding that gem silica is top quality aqua chalcedony, correct? What defines gem silica? I'm trying to wrap my brain around the nuances. Thanks.

The easiest answer is that gem silica is colored by copper.

Good luck as the details or definition do not necessarily define the beauty.............here's a resource https://www.etsy.com/shop/lapicarey?search_query=gem+silica (Inclusions affect value of course) Ultimately the translucence/beauty/quality is what I focus on........the name is not the most important thing. There are some beautiful gems out there (Mtorolite amongst my favorite)............have fun hunting!
