SO picked the final choice of the diamonds we looked at and knows I want a solitaire. He had the jeweler contact me regarding the setting and I know I'm going with a cathedral for the 2.5 ct Emerald cut he chose. I had picked my wedding band first because that was the only thing I was certain I loved. The issue is, do I want it to sit flush or gap?

I'm actually ok with a gap but I wasn't sure if anyone had issues with rubbing or damages caused to setting or stone? In my mind I figured a flush set would mean less rubbing but takes up less finger space and would partially cover my band. Metal is platinum. The jeweler says If I want them flush then the setting will need to be raised in an already considerably high setting. I guess this is bc the basket would get in the way and cause a gap?

My band is 2.5 to 3mm high, 5mm wide. There are pics of it throughout the site. I tried on a 2ct EC loosely placed on a petite cathedral but I wanted something a little more substantial for my size 7.5 finger, so my cathedral will be a little thicker. I'll post a pic of that. The petite cathedral seemed too dainty and low for me.

How high is TOO high and any issues with rubbing if a lower set? Also, I would like split prongs, in case anyone has advice or experience with those. I'm sure there are other threads that touch on these concerns, feel free to post them along with your ring pics. I was searching "Ring gap" and every post with the word ring came up, lol.

Thank you.

From the pictures, your wedding band appears to be channel set, so there is no diamond exposed on the sides. This means you shouldn't have to worry about damage from rubbing, since you'll have platinum rubbing against platinum. Problems occur when you have an exposed diamond girdle on one ring cutting into the metal of the other ring.

Thank you! I suppose from there it boils down to preference. I appreciate your info!

I tried to upload a pic but it for some reason isn't loading. I did post another of a 2.4 ct I tried on and should be viewable in my images on my acct.
