I have a 0.92ct H SI1. In future if I am upgrading I would be happy to stay with H SI1 for good balance between staying mind clean and good value for me. However with BGD you have to increase 2 C’s with each upgrade.
I was thinking I could go to say 1ct F SI2 then say 1.2ct H SI1 thereby increasing two of the C’s each time.
Thoughts? Is there anything to say I can’t do this? Has anyone done or thought of doing this? Thanks

That would be an option, I did that kind of accidentally with them. I went from a 1.5 J SI2 to a 1.8 J VS2 to a 2.1 I SI2. Eye-clean SI2 are my sweet spot (for now at least). However, you may want to give them a call and explain what you really want. They will probably be willing to work with you. Lastly, I would be tempted to see the F SI2, if it is eye-clean, you will get a nice jump in color.

I recommend calling them and having an honest conversation about what you're looking for.

I would definitely call them ~ I upgraded with them and it was really easy. Their customer service is awesome and they do everything to make sure you are happy (that was my experience)!

I agree, I think their upgrade policy is too restrictive. I'd just ask. If they say no, then do exactly what you said. You can send the new stone back a week later and get the one you really wanted.

Wow I didn't know that was their policy. I would find that very hard as I really like to stay in the warmer colors.

Thanks all for your replies. Yes I think I would let them know what I was doing if I were to do that.... hopefully they would be happy to let me cut out the middle step and avoid the hassle of doing it that way... but I guess if they did it would kind of make their upgrade policy moot...

I probably wouldn't tell them that.. just say that you would really, really want to stay at H/SI1 at those are your ideal diamond parameters and you would appreciate it if they can be flexible this time. If not, they go the more difficult route, but hope that they can be understanding.

Its in place to help cut down on sideways upgrades if there is significant difference in $$ I can see them waiving it.

Speaking of sideways upgrades I wonder how many people did that in 2008.

Getting a bigger and better stone for not that much more money sounds like a great trade.
