Hello PS'ers!
Although this is my first post in a while, I am a VERY long-time lurker. When I finally became engaged, PS was a great resource for finding "real life" pictures of the kind of rings I wanted, and even of specific models that I was eyeing for my reset. Sometimes website pictures can be SO different from how the ring looks IRL...so I wanted to "give back" to the PS community by posting pics of my lovely engagement ring re-set!
My fiance proposed with a vintage heirloom diamond ring. The backstory of the original ring is sweet: his grandmother met his grandfather just before he shipped off for WWII. After three dates, his grandfather proposed with the ring. Many years later, it also became his mother's engagement ring too! When FH's parents became engaged, his father was in law school and had no money. His father's mother then gave her original engagement ring (which she had since upgraded, smart woman
) because she didn't want her daughter in law to go without. Here's the original:
Because FH knows me and knows that my style is very particular, we picked out the setting together. I fell in love with one of Gabriel and Co's "victorian" halo settings. I love how the design preserves the vintage spirit of the diamond, while being ornate and totally suited to my tastes and personality. I also feel like the setting makes the diamond "come alive". I have to say that Gabriel and Co's quality is outstanding. I love how the bottom part of the band is narrow, but still substantial. It's comfortable to wear and usually stays in place. I don't have many stats on the main diamond as it has not been professionally appraised. I do know that it is approximately .5 of a carat. It's eye clean, but has a chip in it after being well loved and worn for 70 years! However, with all the sparkle, you simply can't tell! Ring size is 5.
All in all, I am in love, and I believe I have the perfect ring with history behind the diamond and a style that matches my personality...and being a thrifty girl I love that we got it all for less than $1200! We went through King's Jewelry in Alexandria, VA and had a fantastic experience (and they were having a great sale, too). They didn't charge to mount the stone, either!
Detail photos to come in comment...
