HI

We are looking at a 1.6 princess cut diamond. When we first looked at it it was not certified but called F SI1 by Sirius. It came back from the GIA as G VS2 (VG VG on pol/sym). I am wondering what impact on the price this should have. What is the average price per carat for F SI1 vs G VS2?

Thanks. TS

Well depending on the cut of the stone (according to the AGA Cut Charts) this will give you an approximate divison to put the stone in cut-wise. Many things determine price, including:

1) mark-up from each person who touches the stone, siteholder, to cutter, to wholesaler, to retailer to consumer.
2) The clarity, color and carat weight which are the most definable, by grading.
3) cut standards are not determined yet for shaped stones, but this also commands a premium if well cut, versus a reduction for badly cut stones with less optical performance.
4) branded stones, such as the Leo cut princess stones

So, depending on how your stone is cut there could be at least 4 averages and at least 4 lowest averages for such a stone as seen in PriceScope's price stats page HERE: (I don't think it's factoring in the recent price increases from the DTC)
Shown in $price per carat (so we multiply by 1.6cts)

For F, SI1 (total AVG = $4,820)

2A cut average = 5545 x 1.6= $8,872
2A cut lowest = 4177 x 1.6= $6,683.2

2B cut average = 5515 x 1.6= $8,824
2B cut lowest = 2615 x 1.6= $4,184

3A cut average = 5450 x 1.6= $8,720
3A cut lowest = 3989 x 1.6= $6,382.4

3B cut average = 5744 x 1.6= $9,190.4
3B cut lowest = 5526 x 1.6= $8,841.6

for G VS2 (total AVG = $5,358)

2A cut average = 5671 x 1.6= $9,073.6
2A cut lowest = 5041 x 1.6= $8,065.6

2B cut average = 5736 x 1.6= $ 9,177.6
2B cut lowest = 4444 x 1.6= $7,110.4

3A cut average = 5840 x 1.6= $9,344
3A cut lowest = 4825 x 1.6= $7,720

3B cut average = 5878 x 1.6= $9,404.8
3B cut lowest = 5434 x 1.6= $8,694.4

So it looks like even with a drop in color, you will be paying ABOUT $540 more for the clairty grade.

This is of course NOT conclusive, but based on the numbers given from PS as the averages, and the info I have, those are the averages for your stone. Again, prices are different at B&M sotres from on-line stores, so too many things factor in to make this fairly inconclusive.

Hope it helps!

Thanks, that does help. We were told about the same thing for an increase in price, but it's always good to double check. Fortuntately for us, we locked in at the lower F SI1 price!
