Hi everyone,
I am new around here and i find this forum a mine of knowledge, thanks everyone for all the info in here.
I would love to hear some of your opinions on G/SI2 diamonds.
Currently i am in the process of upgrading my engagement ring, i have currently a cushion G/ SI1 8.39mm aprox. I wanted to keep it in the same range color/ clarity wise so i found a diamond that I absolutely love, it's an Oval with the nicest cut i have ever seen and it's a G color but faces up like an F. the problem is it's an SI2. I wasn't in the market shooping for an SI2 but the jeweler show it to me anyway due to it's beautiful cut and how much fire it has and the large carat size ( almost 5 carat)
Now to the point, the inclusion is on the table of the diamon but not in the center, it's a feather so looks like a scratch when you look at it with the loupe, but to the naked eye it's really hard to see, it's really really hard to see almost impossible because it hides in the facets of the stone or at least was very hard for me to see it.
Problem is , now that i know the inclusion is there will it bother me down the line?
What's your experience with SI2 diamonds ? Do they retain good value?and would you be willing to sacrafice having that inclusion but getting a super sparkly white well cut unique stone?
Or should i pass it up be patient and wait to find the perfect G SI1???
Thanks for reading

If you're asking now, I assume that means it will bother you. I can see it and I think it would bother me.

Does it actually bother you now that you know it’s there? You sound excited about everything else about the stone.
I don’t know what the resale is like for large white oval SI2s that aren’t completely eyeclean but it does sound like the stone has a lot going for it otherwise and it could be a great buy if the inclusion doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb to you every time you look at it.
Is it priced well for its specs?

Some people would never go that low but others think of inclusions like birthmarks. No diamond is perfect right? So its really all about how you
feel about the inclusion and whether YOU can live with it. If the inclusion is hardly ever visible due to the sparkle/brilliance of the stone and the
stone has a really outstanding cut than I may* be able to overlook it (because I'm more a birthmark kind of girl).

If loving the stone but having the inclusion there is always going to bug you then probably best to hold out for a cleaner stone.

I have a small stone that is an eye-clean SI1. The inclusions look like the string of Hawaiian islands so I named it Aloha. My way of embracing the
inclusions.

*Diamonds dont really hold there value and basically if you want to sell it in the future you are going to have to find someone who is a "birthmark"
kind of person (which may make it harder to sell and may make it sell for a little less due to the visible inclusion but I assume you are paying less
due to the visible inclusion).

And another thing (you can shut me up tonight :P2), I can probably forgive a lot on a 5 carat stone. Seems like the bigger the stone, the more forgiving
people are. Just dont overpay.

I can't unsee inclusions, so for me, if I can see it with my bare eyes...hard no. If I can see it under 10x, might make me crazy if it has any color to it. But, I have ready access to a 40x microscope.

The bottom appears to have an area below it which is near transparent. I can see the ring shank through this area. Is the area in blue as clear/see-through as the photo shows? The culet is faceted, I can see that, but this area is rather flat and appears to be leaking a lot of light. Does this area look grey/flat in person? Does this area flash or move? Can they give you a video? Do you have measurements?

Also, is it GIA graded? Are you sure this is an F (and not a EGL or ISI F meaning H or I) and SI2 (which could be I1 or 2 by other graders)?

Even a G/SI2 oval is going to be quite a big budget ($60-79k). So, I'd ask this question a different way. If you could an oval in budget with mind-clean clarity, but smaller size weight (spread may be the same or smaller) -- would you go for it?Maybe that answer will help you?

Examples (we can find more and maybe better if you want options to consider).

I have terrible vision up-close, so I know it wouldn't bother me, lol. I'd probably be inclined to get it and then do the happy dance for the great deal I got on a 5ct.

I've sold an ideal cut F/SI2 and it was definitely not as easy had it been a better clarity. It was eye-clean (well, that's not saying much for me), but it almost comes with a stigma.

.

Does the stone have an open culet ? Not many do ...

RE. SI2, I am too tolerant of 'clarity characteristics' depending what & where they are !
