G color indoors and outdoors

Hi everyone, I recently found the center stone for my engagement ring (thank you for your helpful advice in that process!) I am obsessed with the faceting pattern and the way it sparkles.

One thing I’m curious about is the difference in its appearance indoors and outdoors. I’ve read that warm lighting can make any stone look warm. I definitely feel like my stone (a G color) looks warm indoors at my house, and it’s still very pretty, but I absolutely love how it looks in the natural lighting outdoors. I’m wondering how it will look in other places with varying lighting, and whether it’s maybe a little inherently warmer than I’d prefer. I am planning on setting it in rose gold, however—so that may not matter?

I’d love your input on the pictures below. How warm does the stone look to you? Is there any way to tell if the warmth is from the lighting or the stone itself? A9341FDA-2E32-4102-B426-6C7EE5F4AB91.jpegCC7A4975-42EE-411E-835E-4AF4BD312C32.jpegThanks in advance!

Perhaps try and take the shots again with the stone on white paper? I think in the second shot, the stone is taking in the warmth of whatever the background colour is. If it's a G, it should only look warm next to a D. Looks fairly colourless to me in the top pic :) It'll look lovely in any metal.

Do you have the cert for it? Can you post it? I have a LG G as well, and it has a brown undertone...

@paradiseiseverywhere I vote keep it. Your stone is very pretty. Normally I would say if the color bugs you, don’t keep it.

But you say you like the facets, and that is a big reason to keep it. Even when diamonds have the same category of cut, they often have different personalities. Those facets you are obsessed with are worth holding on to.

FWIW I prefer icy white diamonds but I have 3 G-color diamonds. What @monipod says is true — they only show color next to my D-colors.

Last thing I’ll say is that G in rose gold will be lovely. Rose gold does not make the diamond look whiter so much as the rose gold eliminates the contrast between any yellow or brown in the diamond and a white metal setting. Also rose gold will not make a white diamond look yellow but the diamond will often reflect the color. So having bought several diamond set in rose gold, I would not pay extra to go higher in color.

You might be color sensitive and can easily see the yellow in a diamond. I can see it up until D. It's easy for me to see the yellow in G and F. I can see it in E but I have to look harder. Just want to throw it out there, as it's not common to be this color sensitive, but some of us are!

Wow that’s a super pretty diamond! I love the cut and facet patterns. I think it’s very pretty and I would keep it :)

I think it's a gorgeous diamond and would have no issues with it, even setting it in white gold would look good to me. I think I'm not very color sensitive.

Wow, thank you so much everyone for your input--it has been really helpful! I think I am going to keep the stone!

I do think that I may be a bit color sensitive (I saw a link in another thread to an online color sensitivity test and got the highest sensitivity score possible, though I don't know much about that test or how reliable of an indicator it is). That being said, you all make great points about the stone being beautiful regardless and the things I love about it being worth keeping!
