I know I''m being very fussy here, but I can''t help but worry about it! I''ve already had a couple of opinions on this, but I would like a few more, just to put my mind at ease

In an ideal cut stone, once set in platinum, would you be able to see the difference in shade between a D and F colour?

Reason is, Im trying to choose between these two:

F


I did notice that the D stone has got a feather on the edge, which is why maybe it seems to be a little cheaper for a D of this size.

I'd guess if the F and D stone were side by side in settings allowing a good view of the side of the diamonds in certain lighting you may detect a faint color difference.
But if you viewed the same rings in the same way, in the same light, but separately, the untrained eye would probably not be able to tell which was which.

May I recommend you go out and compare some AGS or GIA D and F stones in person?
Then you can decide whether the slight difference is worth the large cost difference to you.

I agree that when viewing a diamond face-up on-axis the color is less noticeable than it is from the side, but frankly the majority of time I look at my diamond I do not flip my wrist up and look at my stone on axis.
Also Ideal cut helps conceal color, but again ideal cut is judged on-axis.

If you simply must have a diamond that shows absolutely no color to even a trained eye, regardless of lighting or angle of view then just buy the D.
It is your money and your diamond and you don't owe anyone an explanation - but please see them in person so you make an informed choice.

Go to a jeweller who sells ideal/ex AGSs/GIAs and take a look

Any inclusions in a VS1 are of no consequence, visually or durability-wise.

Both looks good, no way a VS1 feather is ever going to be a problem.

I think you have to look at them in person face up. I could really tell the difference in the store between a D and a G when they were turned over but face up-not so much. I ended up going with a G color because of the price and because I don''t think I''ll be comparing it closely to many Ds...but you have to get what works for you. Go look in person and see what works for your budget/your mind...you may just be more comfortable knowing you have a D

yes I will go to a local jeweller and compare. I''m a scientist so I have a keen eye for detail, so it will be interesting to see if i notice the difference

Other than that, do you think that they are both very similar in quality?

The HCA scores are similar.

I'm of an engineering background and, as many here will confirm, I share the dreaded hair-splitting gene.

The diamonds you are considering are so good in every way that you could just flip a coin.
They are that good.

Read the policies of WF and BGD, especially the length of the return period and trade up rules, to see if you prefer one.

I agree as well - there''s probably almost no chance you''ll really be able to see a difference

Yes.

Tell that jeweler to not tell you which is the D before you compare them.
