So a few days ago I was wrestling with what setting to get for my GF''s new ring. I decided to take her to a few jewlry stores in the mall here in SF, not to buy, but just to look at settings, get sized etc.
We browse threw a the first two stores, which are like likes of zales. Then head to the "fancy" diamond store thats been in business for 100 years. We are approached by a sales woman, who has a very nice attitude, reminded me of Miss Garrett from Facts of Life. She shows a few diffrent settings, then for fun I started asking her more detailed diamond questions. First, i asked her if any of hte stones were ags ideal cut.
Her reply was THERE IS NO SUCH THING. HA, so i was like oKkkkk. Then i asked her about H&A, her reply was, its just a gimmick, that makes NOOO diffrence!. Now this woman is in her late 50''s, very irish, dressed very classy, and is quite a bit over weight. Out of NO WHERE, shes exclaims "You know, im a karate expert, it takes a focused mind to pick out a good ring!" Me and my girlfriend looked at each other, like OH MY GAWD. Needless to say after that comment, we were looking for the door. As we were trying to keep a straight face, the sales lady then tells us, "this ring is a steal" (.50ct I SI2), no ideal cut or H/A.. in a plantium tiffany setting, how much of a steal? only 3,900.00! Im about to pick up a diamond ring from a vendor here on pricescope for a fraction of that price and its 10x better!
That was realy the first time I stepped foot in to a Diamond Store, and one that touted itself as "upscale", there were plenty of other people in there.. I just looked at them and though.. man they are getting ripped.
Viva LA pricescope!
