So today I visited a freind and her 3 daughters and 2 freinds of the daughters (sleepovers) to show them my gemstones and stuff (oldest daughter is 13 I think).

My collection consited of a pair of 0.23 carat round ideal cut diamonds G, VS2 with not quite medium floresence; and a 1.58 carat Demantoid (see picture). The pair of diamonds were originally meant as side diamonds for a 3 stone e-ring. The Demantoid was initially concieved becasue D wanted a green center stone - and then I purchased it for me after she did not come on the trip (which included a half a day in the gemvaults of Palagems).

I also had a 1 Carat ideal cut CZ which came with my Ideal-Scope - light table - loupe - tweezer set.

In addition I have an engraved weading band that was never needed (as I had purchased a matched pair).

Along with that I took 3 books by Renee Newman: Gemstone Buying Guide; Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald Buying Guide; Diamond Ring Buying Guide as these books have lots of geat pictures...

The following viewers: IdealScope, ASET scope, Heats and Arrows.

Gemstone light table, 10 loupe, set of sizing rings, tweasers, jemstone cloth, etc.

I also took the apprasials for the matched set of diamonds (matched set) and the Demantoid - the apprasials have pictures on them as well (Dave Atlas for the Diamonds - with Ideal Scope pictures; Rich Sherwood for the Demandtoid).

We had lots of fun.... The kids were entranced.... Those side diamonds look like small headlights when held between the fingers in a dim kitchen with only near dusk window light.

So who wants to come over and Play?

Sounds like fun to me!

Anyone else see Santa in the Demantoid in the upper right quadrant. Glasses, triangle nose, beard etc... Please tell me I am not the only one lol....

Sounds like great fun! I'd love to come over and play.

ETA--Ha! I do see Santa!

Concerning "Santa":

Yes, he is checking to see if you all are naughty or nice.

The wiskers are real too. Demantoids are the green gemstone of the Russian Tzars; and the best ones contain wiskers (called "horsetail"). This cannot be duplicated by a synthetic gemstone of the same chemistry. Thus, one of my attractions to Demantoids is that they are easily verifiable as a natural stone. I note that they are not cheap either.... High quality Demantoid is about 1/2 the price of high quality diamond (of course - junk is junk and not worth much in any gemstone).

Richard Sherwood indicated to me that this Demantoid rated fairly high on the rating scales for such stones. To bad the reflections off the facets do not allow you to see inside the stone better. Wink Jones spent a lot of time getting this picture for me. I am sure that was because it is hard to get a picture of Santa....

Flygirl - and any others who want to play - I'm in Wisconsin - about 1.5 hours north of Milwaukee; so let me know when you are free to travel this way.

LOL! I remember that gem, what a great time we had with it, shame the picture is not nearly as beautiful as the gem.

I would love to have it to try my video setup with sometime!

May I play too?
Of course Harriet...

I think that you all should bring your collections too.... I''d really like to see Fly Girls colored jemstones and jewelry. I think she is way ahead of me in that department.
