Ok... so I am getting my setting custom made from a local jeweler who was recommended by my appraiser, and has also been used by several people on this board in the past. After reading glowing reviews I was pretty comfortable about using this company.

2 weeks ago I went in and had a consultation to sit down and design the setting. I came out happy with the design we came up with, but I was sort of put off by the lack of advice the jeweler was giving me... he didn''t really make suggestions or brain storm with me.. he just handed me a catalog and told me to go through it and look for ideas.

I was told my appraiser that this jeweler could turn around a ring in a few days if needed, but I didn''t, so we settled on having the ring done in 2 weeks. After 1 week I was supposed to have CAD drawings of my ring.... after 1 week I did not receive the drawings and contacted the jeweler. 5 more days pass and I receive nothing, so I call him again and get a huge apology about that and the "don''t you worry.. you''re in good hands" thing. He sent the pictures an hour or so later.

Ok, so this was 2 days ago that I got the pictures, and the ring it supposed to be done today. I call him yesterday to confirm that it will be done today and after him telling me that he''ll need most of the day to get it done I start to think that he probably hasn''t even started it. So now, today, an hour before it is supposed to be done, he calls and says he''ll need until at least 5:30. The first thing that runs through my head is "great... so you''re going to do a rush job to get this done by the end of today.. that''s the LAST thing I want". This is just so frusturating, and not at all the service I was expecting to receive.

Were my expectations too high? or do you think I have every right to be a little PO''d about how this is all playing out.

Whew... thanks for reading my rant.

I don't think you're out of line to be upset. If someone says 2 weeks, you expect 2 weeks. Sometimes unexpected delays occur, but a professional would contact you and say... 'look it's going to be a little longer than originally estimated.'

It seems that your guy did not say that. I would go a step further and contact him (is it due TODAY?) and say listen, it is my perception that you're a little behind schedule for whatever reason. If you need a couple more days to work on it... I'd rather it be done right than done fast.

That is... if time isn't still an issue.

I think anytime you are given representations and a dealer fails to live up to them, it is bound to be disconcerting. Personally, I am certainly still at a stage where I need to have my hand held a little. With the prices we are paying, and the availability of so many good vendors out there, I think you have every right to be frustrated at unsatisfactory customer service.

Let's just hope the setting turns out to be everything you wanted. If so, try not to let an imperfect experience lessen your enjoyment of a good product.

I just called them and the guy told me that the ring is all done, but they just wanted to extra time to clean the ring up instead of doing a rush job on that. Of course I'm still a skeptic though because my experience with him so far has not been so stellar. Regardless, I will go over the ring really well before leaving his shop. We'll see what happens.

TinLemon, I completely understand. My biggest pet peeve in life is when people don't do what they say they are going to do . . . period.

Please let us know how it turns out!

Ok... so I picked up the ring and it is BEAUTIFUL!! I am just so happy with it, but nervous at the same time... because for the first time throughout the process it is now all 100% in my hands.... only one more thing left to do, which of course is to pop the big question. Who knows when that will be.

So when I got there they were still doing a little cleaning on it, no big deal. When it was finally in my hands I took a real hard look at it and noticed some unevenness in the channel (it's channel setting with 5 stones down each side). So he took the ring back to his workshop and evenned it out and now it looks perfect. He admitted that my ring was the "star of the show today" and they have been working on it non-stop to get it done.

I guess in the end what matters is that it is done, and looks great. I guess I should also appreciate the time he put into it to make sure it was done on time, which shows that they take their business seriously.

I wish I could post pictures, but I'd like my gf to be the first one to see it. Once she has it though, I'll definately post them up.

Glad everything worked out.

I'd also like to note that you didn't just blast the person/company's name all over here and simply vented frustrations of the situation and concerns... wish more people had that restraint in tough times until everything is settled.

I'm glad to see that it worked out the way you wanted it too! And no, your expectations were not too high.

Diamondlil, AMEN to your comment about people not doing what they say they will. That is my biggest pet peeve in life, too! A person's word should be good for something.
