Frustrated with jeweler and Tacori, need adivce

I have had ongoing problem with my Tacori ring, mostly with losing the small stones. Everytime I get my ring back from being repaired something else is wrong with it. The last time I got it back the miligrain pattern on one side of the ring was completely buffed smooth, there was also a little chunk of platinum missing near one of the prongs. They had also trimmed the prongs on one side of the ring to clean up what my jeweler referred to as "flashing", so now the prongs are much shorter on one side of the ring than the other. When I first brought this up to my jeweler his response was "Well noboby else can see it", this makes me so mad, I can - isn''t that all that matters??

After I brought my concerns up to him again he told me he would call Tacori and get back with me in a few days, after 2.5 weeks he finally returned my phone calls. In the meantime, I had been emailing directly with Tacori and they had been fairly helpful. I emailed them on August 30th and they were very rude and told me that I had deal with my jeweler only. My jeweler then sent me a email saying he didn''t appreciate me emailing Tacori, blah, blah.... I had already dropped my rings off to my jeweler also on August 30th before the rude email. My jeweler said the rings were being sent to Tacori for "evaluation". So now, I STILL have not heard anything from my jeweler. I emailed him for an update on Friday and he sent an email saying he would call Tacori and get back to me, I never heard back from him. So here I am, I have no clue what is going on with my rings, they have had them almost 3 weeks now. My jeweler is not being helpful, I feel like they are avoiding me. What do I do now? My jeweler is making me feel as though I am wasting his time and his lack of response to this is not helping. I feel sick over this, I can''t believe I am losing sleep over a ring!!!!

I am sure he sees hundreds of rings a day, I however only see this one and I want it in its original condition. My jeweler told me that is what happens when you have handmade quality jeweler, it shows wear and takes more maintenance than on non-designer ring. This sounds ridiculous to me, why did my dh pay all this money then??? Thanks for letting me vent, any advice you have would be great.

I always thought it was supposed to be the opposite - that designers were MORE durable @@ I''m so sorry you''re going through this!!

Sounds like you need a different jeweler! Is there another local B&M that carries Tacori? If so I would go through them. For all the little fixes you got done was it done by Tacori or the jeweler? If it was done by Tacori I would call them directly and say they need to fix this ASAP free of charge. If the jeweler did it you kind of have a bigger problem because clearly they are not good at what they do if they keep messing up things. I know Tacori has a bad rep on here but there are many PSers who are very happy with their Tacori rings. I think you are totally in the right and deserve to have your ring perfect. The fact that your jeweler things otherwise is insulting.

Most of the work has been done by Tacori, my jeweler worked on it this last time though even though I said I wanted to work done by Tacori. Do you think 3 weeks is enough time to let me know something? I hate when I call the jeweler and everyone acts annoyed. This is just so frustrating.

You are the paying customer, your jeweler works for you. You paid him $ to provide you with a product that was unacceptable. He can blame it on Tacori but as a dealer he represents them. at this point I would probably go to the store and ask for information on the rings and demand a refund. I would also contact Tacori and tell them how unhappy you are and dissappointed in their product. Did you pay by credit card by chance? If so, I''d dispute the charges on the card if they won''t give you a refund. CC companies are pretty good at being consumer advocates if nothing else...

The problem is this is been going on for about 18 months, the rings are not new. Out of the 18 months I have had them they have been in for repair at least 5 times.

that's why Tacori has a bad rep around here and why so many jewelers are starting to drop the line

Here's what Bill Pearlman, who is a jeweler who deals with a lot of designer rings (not Tacori) said in the thread I linked you to above. it's good advice and what I would do.

Is your jeweler a Tacori dealer? If so it is their responsibility to get this handled for you and in a TIMELY manner. If we accept a job request that is O.K'd by the designer we are the ones that make sure that satisfaction is accomplished.

1) Give the jeweler 24 hours to come up with a solution
2) Demand your money back
3) Threaten with a lawyer


ETA: I don't use Credit cards so I don't know, is there a time limit to filing the complaint? Even if it was 18months ago, I'd still do it.

I''m so sorry, what an ordeal. Tacori does make beautiful rings but we''ve heard many stories like yours here. I always try and tell the folks looking at Tacori to make sure they have a jeweler who will go to bat for them if there is a problem. at this point it appears your jeweler has stranded you. you may also try negotiating with the jeweler that you''d be willing to take the refund as a store credit and pic out another setting that isn''t so problematic. i also fear that since the jeweler worked on the ring that will void any warrently by Tacori. A lawyer really may be you best option to get this resolved as painlessly as possible.

I believe that this statement may be the root of the problem. Tacori does NOT authorize authorized Tacori retailers to work on their production. Most Tacori rings are quite ornate and only Tacori should work on them. I''m guessing that the reason Tacori referred you back to the jeweler is not because they do not want to be helpful, but rather because the jeweler may have voided their warranty by working on the ring. Understand that I am only guessing at what the problem "may be" based upon this statement by you, but if in fact the jeweler voided your warranty by working on the ring when you instructed him that you wanted only Tacori to work on the ring, then it seems logical to assume that the jeweler may be liable for having to replace your ring.

Ultimately the jeweler is responsible for ensuring your satisfaction as they are the seller of the ring, Tacori is merely the manufacturer and as such is not responsible for the independent actions of authorized retailers - although retailers found to be a problem are usually dismissed from their program.

For the record, we have found Tacori to be quite cooperative as a manufacturer in assisting us with resolving issues pertaining to quality, workmanship and materials. However, we have never even sized one of their rings, we send everything to Tacori for repair, sizing, etc. without exception.

These things just happen sometimes (losing a melee is common). Sounds like you need to be tougher with your jeweler or go to a different Tacori dealer and have them deal with Tacori for you. Don''t worry about sounding annoying. You paid good money and deserve to get a good product in return. I hope everything works out for you!

Thanks for your replies you have helped alot. I will be contacting my jeweler again today and if I get no response I will go directly to the store. I think I should know something by now, 3 weeks is long enough!!! In the email he sent me he said "I needed to give him more time", but I feel I have. I don''t think contacting Tacori direcly is going to help since the last couple emails from them have been very rude and not helpful, they basically told me that they could not help me any further that I needed to deal with my jeweler directly. I almost feel as though Tacori and my jeweler are "teaming up" on me

Tacori, I know you have a wonderful jeweler and you as well as laney have had great experiences with Tacori but no other designer company has as many quality control complaints on here. I''m not talking just losing a stone, serious quality complaints. there was even a thread where a gal went to look at a Tacori and was disappointed in the workmanship of the display peice. Maybe they get more complaints b/c they are more popular in the mainstream but I know of more than one jewelry store dropping the line because of the poor quality of the rings that had been coming in. I love Tacori settings, they are gorgeous and I don''t even discourage people from buying them, they just need to be aware so they can make an informed decision and order from a jeweler they know will not accept anything less than perfect and make the demands on Tacori to do it right rather than a jeweler who tries to pass the blame or whatever. I agree that the issue now seems to be with the jeweler and like Todd said above if her Jeweler did work on the ring,now he''s liable so yes, she needs to be tougher, demand what she wants and it probably wouldn''t hurt to hire a lawyer.

This definitely is your jewelers responsibility. He is a Tacori representative and he sold you the ring.
