If you don''t like the bulky look of two rings, why get a wedding band at all?

Maybe you can spend your money elsewhere and get a wedding bracelet or pendant instead. I wouldn''t touch your ering...it''s perfect as it is!

Thanks, Jelly! I thought about wearing it alone for a little while, but I decided I''d really like a wedding band.

What do you guys think of this band? It''s circa 1930s. Would it be weird to have an antique wedding band? I mean, it was someone elses. Hmm.

i think you''d need to see it on with your band to really make any sort of decision. my problem is that i am a matchy matchy girl so pairing things like eternity milgrain with an antique filigree kind of band just doesn''t work for me. but it really depends on how whatever band you are considering actually LOOKS with your e-ring. you might see something with it and just love it. or hate it.

I know, it might bother me too. Maybe I''ll look for an engraved band locally and see how it looks. The fact that it seems nothing goes (except for the matching band, which I definitely don''t want) is why I''m so frustrated.

ebree, where did you fing that last band?

my thoughts would be to go to local antique jewelers and try on bands with your ring and if you like something but the idea of it being used bothers you, go custom.

I think antique pieces are wonderful! I have an antique band that hasn't "gone" with any of the three iterations of my engagement ring but I still think it looks wonderful and is a beautiful piece of jewelry. In my own little karma centric world I like to think that who ever wore this before me had many years of a wonderful marriage and now it's my turn.

That band you posted is very pretty--you should see how it looks with your e-ring.

I found the last band on an antique website. The dealer says it has no wear, and was found in a vault with a bunch of other beautiful jewelry when an old jewelry store closed down.

I think it''s sweet. I might think about it for a few more days. It''s only 2mm wide, apparently, so it''d fit pretty well.

My engagement ring is antique as well as one of my wedding bands as well as another ring I wear with my engagement ring as a wedding set. I perfer antique rings.

My engagement ring didn't match the band I loved so I wear them on different fingers...but have another plain band I wear with my engagement ring if I want to wear them on the same finger. But then again, I seem to be the queen of wedding bands lately. I was married with two rings (both put on my finger by the Mr) and have adopted a 3rd one as my own.

These are pretty:

I found another really really thin 1.4mm tall one with about 1/3 carat diamonds set in platinum, but the website won't let me borrow the photo. It looks similar to your setting, just thinner.

I love that last one you posted, Larissa! Thanks! Where is it from?

ETA: I found it! It's perfect, except for the fact that it's WG. Thank you anyway, though- it's definitely the idea I'm looking for.

Oh please don''t take apart your beautiful engagement ring! After all you had it custom made and it looks perfect on your hand. How about wearing it on your right hand and getting some kind of wedding band that you like to wear on your left???
Oooh, this is a great idea
Oh, I wish I had time to read this whole thread. Don''t know if you''ve already decided something, but I had a VERY similar problem with my first setting, with the exception that I wound up hating my original setting. I also felt like two blingy rings together would be too blingy, like you (EBree) said, and that my center stone winds up getting lost in the "blob of diamonds". And back then I really wanted to wear the w-band and e-ring together, to be traditional. But I must admit, after several years, if I had it to do over again*, I would seriously consider wearing them on separate hands. On my honeymoon I discovered that many Europeans wear the w-ring on the right hand. Plus, I''ve met many women who had their diamond ''installed'' into their wedding band for an anniversary and just wear that one ring, or others who reset their e-diamond into a diamondy band for an anniversary, again wearing just one ring. If I''d known all these things before marriage, I wouldn''t have worried so much, and would have just bought a pretty ering and pretty wband and wear them on separate hand. Anyway, I think I did read that your FI isn''t into that, so maybe this isn''t helpful, but in any case, if I knew then what I know now, I would have really considered it.

*Although if I had to do it all over again and found the Michael B petite lace, I probably would have gotten that, because it''s probably my favorite set for having both rings be pretty and somewhat sparkly both apart and together, while still not being too blingy together, and letting the center stone take center stage!

I love that!!!! Part of me feels like ok well it may be wierd to wear a used wedding band, BUT then think of it this way too. It''s a special ring that is a symbol of love that has been around for a while. It makes it really special. But then again i''m a romantic hahaha. But I think it''s gorgeous and perfect. It won''t overwhelm but it also will stand out on it''s own gorgeously. I wish I had gotten something like that!

You know, the more I look at it, the more I like it. I think it's sweet that it might have some history. I don't know if it's used, though...the dealer says there's no wear. But it has to be, right? Maybe it's extremely well made and tough.

Part of me is a little superstitious, but another part agrees with Dee*Jay. Maybe antique pieces bring great luck due to the fact that they'll be loved twice.

I'm going to "mall test" it for today, and if I still think it's a good idea at the end of the day, I might order it tonight!

I had a similarly tough time finding a w-band to "go" with my e-ring. However, I NEVER considered a re-set because I love my e-ring way way way way WAAAAAY too much. (Especially since the Ol Stabby to Sparkly 2.0 makeover)

I think you''ll find something to go with it. If you want platinum you might have to jump over the 1K mark EVEN if you don''t think you should ... the prices are JUST THAT HIGH right now!!! Seriously. And if you consider how much it would *really* cost in time, labor, etc to re-do your entire set in 18K white, PLUS the lifetime of dipping & maint ... it''s worth just a bit over 1K to avoid ALL of that (IMHO).

BTW, I have the same "soft finger" issues and that really impacts what works. I don''t think that would be solved by a re-set either *realistically*. It just IS what it IS. I''m worried a bit about the big adjustment between wearing just my e-ring and the e-ring w-band set (even though I love my new w-band). It''s just that ... an ADJUSTMENT. You''re never gonna be able to avoid an ADJUSTMENT. Wallermama wrote on one of my posts the same thing. A wedding band just smushes your soft finger places it didn''t go before. NO AVOIDING it ... unless you get a magic reset to an invisible band!

Here''s a pix of my new set ... I got my wedding band from estatediamondjewelry.com and they did have some platinum super skinny rings for under 1K ... and some colored stone ones too. Check it out! Have to find my thread for you - because people posted a bunch of great options there too that you might like.

Deco,

I love your new band with your e-ring! It's got that perfect, funky antique look.

Here's another picture of the band I'm considering. It's platinum, exactly my size, and only $350! Does this new picture sway anyone's opinion to either side?

I really like that antique band. And $350 sounds SAHWEEET!!! If it really is 2mm or less, I say DO IT ... try it ... and if doesn''t work ... either return it (if possible) or sell it on ebay!

ps -- Was looking for something much like that myself at first but just try scoring a size 10 1/2 antique ladies band (HA!!!)

pps -- If you wanna see more examples of non-matchy sets, the Celeb Rings folder is full of ''em.!

It''s apparently right at 2mm.

The dealer has a return policy too.

Woooo, I had the same problem with my ering.... I had a horrible time trying to find something that didn''t take away from the ering. After much stress, I ended with a plain band and a nice engraved band.....I have been married for 23 years so I am able to switch around according to mood ...hehehehe. I think your ering is beautiful!!!! I would keep it. Due to your same struggles everyone thought I didn''t like my ering either... However, my problem was the opposite I LOVED the ering and was determined to make it work. In the end I followed the advice of pricescopers and went simple...I am a happy girl. I think you will be sorry if you take it apart, it is a beautiful ring ..................WOOOOO.....................

You should definitely be able to find something that will "work" with your ring.

Art Deco-Style Wedding Band
This platinum tapered band is a recreation of an original from the mid 1920''s. It has a wonderful swirling design and tapers in width from 2.6mm at the top down to 1.5mm at the bottom. Available in most sizes. $315.00

It''s a more than 2mm at it''s widest, but maybe since the width on this one tapers maybe it wouldn''t make your fingers feel as cramped?

dtnyc,

Thanks! I love that. I don't love the engraving on all sides, but I could see if they could engrave just the top. Where did you find it?

I found it on antiqueengagementrings.com- here is the page it is on http://antiqueengagementrings.com/shopping/shopdisplayproducts.asp?page=3

There are 2 rings with diamonds on that page that I like for you as well, but I didn''t know if you would budge on the diamond thing.

I know some people on this forum haven''t had the best communication with antiqueengagmentrings, but we bought our wedding bands there and really liked Leigh.
If you are really interested in something and want to know if it could be done w/out the engraving I would suggest calling Leigh and asking him. We really liked working with him, but met with him in person as we are in NYC.

I thought this might look good w/ your ring too:

here''s a link for inspiration.

$350? Girl, whaddaya waitin'' for? Snap it up, or let me know where to get it so I can!

That $350 band sounds like agreat deal! And I don''t think a "used" wedding band is weird at all, but then I''m biased--I wear a 1930''s vintage wedding set.
1.gif
I like having a piece with with history, even if I don''t know what it is. That way I get to make up my own story.
5.gif

And when you think about it, most of us are wearing "used" diamonds, anyway. They weren''t all freshly mined just before we bought them!

I''m pretty sure we''re going to order it. When it comes in, I''m going to take pictures and ask for more advice. Here''s to hoping I love it! Thank you to everyone who offered advice. You gals (and guys) are awesome.
