Cehra....Glad to hear that you hear that voice tempting you to consider rounds over cushions. I''m not alone!!!!! How long have you been looking for your perfect cushion?

Mrssalvo... That''t the million dollar question!!!! Am I 100% sure about the cushion? Can''t say that I''m that sure yet. It certainly would be easier to go with the cushion.....but not very often have I taken the easy way out.

Diamondseeker...Good idea to set the great asscher in a temp setting, but it''s going to look so small on my size 8 finger and I''d like to wear my new ring proudly right away. I believe you''re right on H & A being the only upgradeable stones at GOG.

Lizz...My e-ring is a princess cut with trillions on either side. I love the sparkle that it gives off in sunlight.
Re Daniel K''s great baguette halo setting: It''s available only with DK asschers. Went that route briefly with DBOF, but it didn''t work out.

Kristy...I love both cuts as well, but since is going to be my last diamond rhr upgrade, I want to "do it right"

Mokey...Thanks for the link to Knox Jewelers and "the dream" setting. Definitely another possibility...

widget....Funny you should mention the "honker". Its owner got in touch with me yesterday proposing a "viewing" of that ring somewhere that is acceptable to both of us. He said he''d look into it within the next few days. Maybe....

Thanks again for everyone''s help. You are the best!!!!

My apologies for hopping in here but Isaku... that cushion is upgradeable should you ever want to do that.

LOL the answer that pops in my head is "not long enough" LOL!! I came here in june wanting a 3/4 carat oval ::scoff:: but realized I liked the chunkier shoulders on a cushion and then decided to at least double the size hehehe... I''d love to triple the size! I made plans to have someone watch my kids so I could go downtown and check out the estate guy but I called to verify hours and he had foot surgery and won''t be back until sometime september WAAAHHHHH lol Just my freaking luck!!!

Yes, the voices tell me every day that it would be so easy to find a lovely round... well relatively at least lol

Absolutely no apologies needed, Rhino. Your input is welcome any time.

Thanks for the good news about the possible upgrade on the cushion.

I thought that all inhouse stones were the upgradeable ones since they were part of GOG stock, already purchased and paid for kinda thing. I''d ask because for me that would be intriguing. aka getting this stone now with this easier to do setting then maybe in 5 years you want something different and are willing to go for the asscher and someone is willing to make it right, and you maybe have another $10k or something to play with. or in another 10 years maybe you could afford the straight 5c with the cartier repro. just some thoughts.

Cehra....Don''t even think about that cushion until I''ve made up my mind..... and you know how long that takes.

Also you started looking in June. You haven''t been totally tortured until you''ve looked for at least five looonnnggg months.

You''re obviously a true PS''er if you hired a babysitter to look after your kids while you went to look at diamonds. Atta girl!!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!!

I didn''t realize when I started looking in April that it would become such an obsession and that there would be so many "brick walls", but that''s the price you pay for looking for an exceptional quality stone. Just wait until you start looking for settings...., or have you chosen yours??

I love your "plan ahead" philosophy. One problem with that for me is: In 5 years I''ll be 69 years old and in 10, well , you can do the math. Who knows whether I''ll be able to tell the difference between a diamond and onyx????

I agree that you should get what you love most now and not even think about upgrading. If you like asschers more, then get the asscher done in the same setting you''re looking at for the cushion if you don''t think anyone can make a baguette halo the way you want. I love the Legacy style halo ring, maybe even more than the baguette one.

Thanks DS.....I''m wondering whether the cushion setting would be too "flashy" for the sleek asscher.

Is there anyone who could Photoshop the 2.26 asscher into the cushion setting. As we''ve established, I''m a visual person, not a visionary type

Isabel, you need to look at Kaleigh''s asscher. It is in a similar setting, but your asscher is larger which will be better for your finger size.

Hehe well 5 years is better than 10 years for sure. But I mean at least the option IS there right? I personally love the cushion with the cushion setting, but in a few years you might get a hankering for an asscher. It''s really hard to know what will be in your heart in a few years. It''s great that the cushion is upgradeable!!

If you do want to wear this now, I would not get the 2c asscher and just sit on it. Because I do agree that is too small a size for any sort of impact on a size 8 finger, and that would bother me too. Halo''ing the asscher is a definite posibility but I like the idea of halo''ing the cushion better visually.

Kaleigh''s asscher is gorgeous; I just thought that for an asscher, I should be looking for a sleek style of setting to complement the asscher. Maybe not.....

five months?? i''ve been waiting 15 years!!!! I have no diamond of my own other than my earrings LOL I have some from my mom but they''re nasty as diamonds go LOL I''ve been waiting a long time for a "e-ring" from my husband so I shouldn''t have to wait 5 months!!! LOL I''ve been looking at settings but likely I''ll have it custom made. It''ll be fairly simple and yet unique... I think when people see it they''ll be like oh yeah, why hasn''t that been done before?

Absolutely right on, Mara. I had never even heard of an asscher 5 years ago , who knows what I''ll love 5 years down the road ( assuming "marbles are still in place)?

However, I really don''t want to compromise much at this (st)age. I''d like to buy to keep.

My first big purchase after getting a teaching job was a ''67 Jag XKE (convert). Absolutely loved it, but sold it to buy a building lot for our new home. Wish I still had the Jag, though.

First major jewellery purchase was an 18k gold and diamond Piaget which I wore quite a bit in the 80''s, but now it sits mainly in the home safe. Our daughter gets that one.......in due time and not a minute before

Mine is a similar style to Kaleigh''s but on a size 7 finger. My center stone is also smaller than yours, so maybe this pic will give you an idea of how much finger coverage you can expect. HTH a bit.

Boom, I LOVE the prong set stone!!! This really illustrates how big Isabel's ring could be with a halo!! And I adore the contrast of the glassy asscher with the round brilliants surrounding it.

Cehra.....15 years and no diamond from DH????? By now you deserve nothing but the best!!!!!

Go for it!!!!

I think I like it better than the illusion setting as well...

Thanks Boom: That gives me a better perspective of size on finger size 7. What is the size of your asscher?

Isabel, my stone is 1.84cts. Quite a bit smaller than yours, but with the halo, I am more than happy with how big it looks.

Isabel . . . I hate to throw another wrench in your plans, but . . . I have had both a square emerald and a cushion. I traded in the square emerald for the cushion after 9 mos. because there was just not enough sparkle for me. I''m thinking since you have a princess cut now with trills, you''re used to sparkle. As asscher is beautiful, it''s just a different look than a brilliant cut stone. The step cuts are very different, a glassy rather than sparkly look. If you''ve never seen one in person, you don''t know yet if you''ll like it, do you? I do think a cushion halo would be a nice complement to your e-ring since it''s a different shape. But maybe you prefer the square shapes.

Just a thought (not to make things more difficult for you

Another perspective is always welcome, lizz. I have never been a fan of emerald cuts, but the asscher is a variant that caught my eye. I have actually seen 2 RA''s, but neither was very good quality and very small for the carat weight. I own one emerald cut tanzanite and while it''s nice in a quiet sort of way, I prefer my current cushion tanzanite which I wear daily.

I probably gave away my love of sparkle when I commented on my princess e-ring which I love and am obsessive about cleaning with the ultrasonic.

I have also seen a small cushion and a small radiant both set as solitaires in platinum. I realized then that I loved the larger look.

When looking for the asscher setting, I told Jonathan that I didn''t want anything that even hinted at vintage, but after looking at many rings on PS, I have come to appreciate "the look"; I think that''s why I surprised even myself when I saw the GOG cushion setting and loved it.

As anyone can plainly see, I have chosen two of the finest examples of asscher and cushion cuts and would probably be happy with either even though they''re very different. The sparkle of the cushion, though, is very addicting.

Isabel,

Just my two cents, but it seems to me you have your heart set on the GOG 2.26 Asscher and you are only considering the cushion because you have no confidence that you can find a jeweler who can make the baguette mounting. If I were you, I would buy the 2.26 Asscher and have Leon Mege make the octagon halo with round melee and set the stone with the double claw prongs. He has made this setting so many times, just counting the Pricescopers, that you can''t go wrong. Besides, I think the rounds give some contrast and enhances the center Asscher. The baguette setting looks better with a color center stone, such as the Daniel K yellow radiant. When it''s white diamond in the center, the baguette halo seems to blend in too much

Jonathan at GOG must be a saint to allow you to tie up the 2.26 Asscher for so long without a firm commitment. Many jewelers would have given you a deadline and told you to ''take it or leave it'', and probably wouldn''t want to do busimess with you again.

Your search has gone on for too long and Pricescopers have spent a lot of time trying to help you with all your different optiions, I would really like you to have ''the ring of your dreams'' soon.

Ditto...asscher in Leon Mege setting. (in case you want votes!)

Why not have the asscher and the cushion sent to you and take a couple days to see which you fall in love with and then just commit to that stone... THEN think about how to best showcase *that* stone.

Thanks for your 2 cents AN. Jonathan is definitely a saint, but he does have some commitment from me: both my money and the asscher are in his possession.

I''m sorry to have prolonged my search for "the ring", but after looking at many Mege halo settings, I don''t think he''s the designer I''m looking for (as blasphemous as that sounds). I''m very grateful for all the PS''ers generous help and I realize that I must make the final decision myself. Thanks again, everyone
35.gif

Cehra...That''s a great idea, but I don''t have the funds to pay for the cushion as I''ve paid Jon for the asscher already.

The more I think about it, the more I see the cushion in the GOG setting as being the one for me. If the bag halo design had been workable, that would have been my choice.
