Hi all, have been eyeing this platinum and white gold diamond drop necklace, per seller description it has the dog’s head French hallmark on clasp and dates to 1920s.

But not sure if there are scratches to the diamond around the bezel, or to the “filler” space between the 3 diamonds in the drop? (Best seen in second picture IMHO—click and enlarge). Or if this looks like normal wear/tear under high degree of magnification? Drop part measures 1/2 inch tall.

Just wanted to say that this is one of the most classic, beautiful diamond drop necklaces I have ever seen, and I hope you have it reserved.

Sorry I can’t answer your question, except that I don’t see the scratches.

It’s gorgeous! Are you asking about scratches to the diamond or the setting?

Love it, and it gave me an inspiration on how to create larger interchangeable pear drops for my huggy earrings without spending a fortune on big pear shaped stones!

I don’t see anything concerning, maybe I’m missing it?

The necklace itself is gorgeous, I would expect there to be some evidence of wear given the age. Also it probably is a lot more apparent in pictures than IRL.

Thanks all!

Unless I did not see the reserve status before, looks like it has been sniped.

I had meant the areas I circled in red below, but a moot point now.

Would love to see your finished project, sounds lovely! I’m always drawn to pear drops when it comes to earrings, IMHO very flattering to any face shape!

Too bad it got sniped (it wasn’t me!) but I wonder if the area I circled is actually a chip.

That is gorgeous and oh so classic! If I had the resources, I’d have a reproduction made in a nanosecond!

It’s a lovely piece - I can see why you’d be bummed it’s gone elsewhere :(
I love the whole look and the chain that was used.

I don’t want to say that I don’t see what might be some girdle damage -
But I do think the majority of what you circled is the surrounding metal being worked/engraved around the round stones to add sparkle to aid in the illusion of a pear shape stone.

@YadaYadaYada Eagle eye as always! Yes, that was one of the areas I was looking at, although I wish now I went ahead and bought it anyway. This feels like the one that got away for sure!

@Rfisher Really cool explanation; it very well could be deliberate! Oh well, I’ll never know now I guess.

 Ugh, just saw this now. My, my, isn't it lovely?! One of the prettiest I've seen. I'm sorry it was sniped(man, do I hate that)but if I could I would definitely make a reproduction of the design. It's killer.

So…I finally found a face on photo of the pendant. Is it me or is the outline of the main round diamond sort of irregular?is it the way the diamond is set? Or is it wear and tear? (One photo with outline in red and one without)

Agree with you that it looks out of round. Do you happen to know the carat wt for the larger diamonds?

The description says the largest diamond in the drop is OMC (7.2 x 7.1 x 3.96 mm, approximately 1.56 carats, I color, VS2 clarity).

The other four small diamonds are H-I color, VS-SI clarity.

Estimated total diamond weight is 1.84 carats.

The drop-shape pendant measures 14 x 8 mm (1/2 x 5/16 in.)

I think you might be confused by the prongs. I can see why you think it’s irregular but I drew my own circle and I think it looks pretty good. C2D6ECAE-7D30-4259-B07A-BDF8753D0198.jpeg

Wow I WISH I could’ve sniped this- but I think it looks too expensive for me! I love it though! Platinum? Where did you find it?

The online vendor is Romanov Russia. I think the price was just under $10k.

Thank you for sharing! I didn’t know if that vendor and their collection is awe-inspiring. Yes definitely outside of my price range. You will find something even better, I just know it!

I am always sad when I want something and it sells… but truly if I see something and I *just have to have it* - I buy it right away.

Sending you dust for the better thing to show up quickly in your life!
