I know not all French cuts are awesome, just like all round diamonds are not spectacular. has anyone had the opportunity to compare the fire/ sparkle. etc of the french cuts used by Leon Mege, Victor Canera, SingleStone, etc? thinking about a thin channel set band and wondering who uses the nicest looking stones.

Thx.

I am lucky enough to have the calibrated french cuts in the channel setting from Leon Mege and I love it! I haven't seen any other french cuts in person to compare but the luminous quality of the Leon stones is just breathtakingly beautiful.

I've only had it for a few days, so I haven't posted pictures yet because it's been gray and cloudy for days, and I haven't been able to get any pictures that do the ring justice. I hope my initial euphoria doesn't wear off because I am mesmerized by this beautiful ring!

I have also spoken to Singlestone about an eternity band with french cuts and Heather said that they often work with people who have Leon Mege rings, so they must be fairly comparable. Heather at Singlestone is very friendly and you won't feel pressured at all if you give her a call for more information. Hope this helps!

This thread might be helpful to review and compare different vendors as wel as different type of french cuts: (regular, high crown or high dome cut from rough or from princess cut diamonds: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/the-2011-trend-the-french-sides-collection.161358/

I have a ring from Leon Mege with high dome french cuts and a ring from Victor Canera.
Personally I prefer the geometric look of the regular cut frenchies from Victor. Much to my surprise actually, as I mostly love high dome when I look at pictures. Most vendors can source all the different styles. You cannot go wrong with the frenchies from Leon or Victor.

There is a PSer with a ring that's based on mine, but she worked with David Klass. The ring is very beautiful and she paid a lower price.

When I decided to go for the Sophia, I had not seen a french cut diamond in real life and did not really understand the difference between regular, high crown and high dome. I now found a description on VC's Facebook which might be very helpful if you want to choose a french cut ring or band. (I have VC's consent to use the information on PS).

See the different french cut styles on this photo (highly magnified 2 mm stones)

Stone 1 is a standard, four sided table, french cut made from already polished stones.

Stone 2 is a "high crown" 4 sided table french cut made from already polished diamonds. The table is smaller on this stone and the crown higher.

Stone 3 is a very authentic to period, high dome, 8 sided (Octagonal) table french cut polished from rough diamonds. Note the polished culet on this stone and the addition of four minor corner pavilion facets.

I wanted high dome stones originally, but it would stretch my budget a bit too much. VC convinced me to go with the regular french cut. I love the look of LGK's and Bright Ice's stones for which he also used regulars and I decided to go for it! I love the look and it complements my stone perfectly. By the way I believe that the price difference between regular and high crown or high dome is smaller with a smaller center stone.

I watched video on Victor's facebook page with two bands with different french cuts... but they looked like the exact same band to me! I am sure in person they are different. I remember years ago on old PS'er, Surfgirl, had Singlestone enlarge an antique thin french cut band and the stones they added did not look as good as the original ones. Less fire. My wedding band is from SS so not knocking their stuff... I just remember I was surprised that the Fc did not look as good.

Do you remember what specific type of french cuts LEon used? Looking forward to see it and the details, how wide, etc. I figure he has access to several different types too.

My work order says they are the "True Antique French Cut Diamonds" based on the Mon Cheri ring #5976 (but with single claw prongs instead of double). The carat weight is 1.31 for the frenchies but I honestly don't know the mm widths of them! I asked Rachel and she didn't know either. I didn't want to ask Leon because I didn't want to pay the "PITA" fee I heard he sometimes charges.

My ring is very similar to Mimi72"s, except that my diamond is a 3.16 ct. EC and hers is 3.77cts. Here is the link to hers -https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-leon-upgrade-emerald-cut-with-french-cut-sides.173652/.

My eyes are drawn to th third type of french cut.

Erika Winters is doing some of her designs with Fench cuts. I thnk she's about to come out with new items too.... I think Yoram cuts them but I'm not 100% sure...

I'm trying to figure out how to post pictures. Sorry for being such a noob!

Ah, the gorgeous EC with french cut ring
Please make a thread in Show Me The Bling with lots of pics.

I would not buy a parcel as some vendors might not a accept that you bring your own and will only accept center stones.

I think it depends on who you buy the stones from and who you get to set them as to buying a parcel of stones. In case anyone missed what I was subtly pointing out above, Leon gets his FCs from Yoram or he sources genuine Antique ones, so does Grace, so does David at DBL and Jon at GOG, for that matter, so for the OP asking which ones are best I am suggesting working out which ones she likes the look of and then going with the cheapest place to source them, or the vendor she wants the overall piece from. There is a huge difference in the prices of stones from different vendors.

Thanks Acinom! My ring simply doesn't compare to your incredible collection of rings!

I am working on getting some better pictures and will post soon.
