Four prong setting question

how should a round brilliant be set in a four prong setting.

Mine was done offset (not lining up with the arrows) but it's not offset perfectly between the arrows so each prong is slightly off from a corner of the table.

Is this right and it doesn't matter or should I get it fixed as it was a designer ring

In my ring in my avatar, every micropave melee stone is set the same way in the prongs, all lining up with the corners. I don't know if it is right or wrong, but if it bothers you, then it should be fixed.

Prob can't tell from my photo but last photo you can see the slight bit centered to corners of table

If it bothers you, ask them to fix it. You will ALWAYS notice it now that you've seen it. Fwiw, it would bother me too!

I don't think there's a "right or wrong" way to set a round stone but I will say that the better designers usually are so aesthetically sensitive that there's no way they'd allow a stone to be placed offset within the prongs. It throws off the balance of the entire design.

These are all blurry photos, but here is an example of a nicely set diamond in a 4 prong setting. You don't want the prongs to cover the arrows, if that is what you were referring to.

Thanks! - yes mine is slight off from the corners there so having it reset

They said I didn't specify but I thought it was standard to have it aesthetically set

Which diamond did you end up keeping?

P.S. Whoever the jeweler is..they sound sloppy. One thing is to have specific requirements, but I would agree that having a diamond set symmetrically should be standard.

Yeah I am equally as shocked as this is a very popular jeweler in NYC

I ended up keeping the 3.4 G over the 3.375 ACA H. They sent me another 3.5 H SI1 that was more white but I was able to see the inclusions.

Which diamond did you end up keeping?

Should have taken it to IDJ in NYC, they do a really good job. Or even better - Steven Kirsch, he would have created an amazing solitaire!

Can I ask you folks to elaborate more on this symmetrical setting practice? Are you trying to say it should NOT cover the arrowhead and also the 4 prongs should each hit the corner of the square table on top of the diamond?
