wow, gypsy. that is really, really pretty. i love the pave collar and the split shank. The prongs do look huge but I''m sure they can totally shave them down when your stone woudl be set.

i''m so happy they let you take pics

Thanks Kaleigh, Carlotta, and Mssalvo. I think it looks much nicer in person than it photographed. But the store was so nice... they turned off the obnoxious lights overhead (themselves-- I never would have asked) so that I could take pictures and the saleslady helped with the photography. They really are great there. If it is discontinued I'll ask them for a discount... but it's in stock for them in exactly my size so I'm not sure I'll be sucessful. I'm hoping Tim comes through with a lower price though... AND if the setting is going to be made for my asscher I might ask them to change the prongs completely if they are willing. I love the Daniel K's because of the pave on the prongs... and these are too round aside from the fact that they are huge. So we'll see. This jeweler was uncomfortable with slimming the prongs down... he's never set a diamond off set like I want it and he's worried about the safety of smaller prongs.

ETA: Talked to Marie (she's the setting guru apparently) who said Landi has 1000's of settings. Not even 1/100th of them are on his site. Would like to get my mitts on a book of his settings, let me tell ya! It would be custom made and pave on the prongs isn't a problem apparently.

Okay so GOG got back to me. Thier price with smaller prongs and pave on the prongs is A LOT more than this one at the store here. And more than the baguette halo from Quest.

The one at the jeweler here is in my size. I''m wondering if A) I can talk this guy into shaving those prongs down considerably. And B)... if pave can be added to the prongs. Thinking yes on A... and probably not on B.

CAN pave be added to an already cast setting?

WOW!!!! Marie from GOG just called me. THEY ARE AMAZING!!!

She said that the reason for the huge price difference is probably because the jeweler here got that ring before the platinum and diamond price hikes. AND she told me to get the setting from them... AND told me how to get exactly what I want! She said to ask the jeweler to send the setting to Richard Landi to set the stone-- with thinner prongs and pave added on them (said the pave adds like a 100 bucks)!!!

The customer service there is PHENOMENAL!!! She said she just wants to see me get the setting I want, at the best price I can.

I''m in shock!

Gypsy! That is phenomenal, and I am SOOO happy for you! The ring is going to be stunning!!

This actually does not suprise me because Jonathan at GOG has the utmost intergrity and that is the way he runs his business. I can''t begin to tell you how good he has been to me.

Anyway, I got my quote back on the one I liked and it was $3990.

Gee, I think I''m back to a solitaire setting!!!

Gypsy, I love the setting you are looking at! But I have to ask you, aren''t you afraid of those unprotected corners? I would be so afraid of them chipping. I''d set it with prongs on the corners if it was me.

Ditto. Me too. ETA: Especially since the basket underneath doesn't match the shape of the stone & "support" or protect it from underneath even ...

p.s. -- The prongs on my Sparkly 2.0 fix looked huge too when the setting was empty - but they weren't big at all after setting the stone. They make 'em big so they have enough material to work with during the setting process.

I've never dealt with GOG personally so it was a shock to me... but not surprised in retrospect considering Jonathan's posts on here. As for your qoute.... yeah... that's right around where mine was from them. It's the platinum. So freaking expensive right now.

I'm going to put a deposit on the setting by the end of the week, if I decide not to go with the baguette halo from Quest for sure.

I'm going to email Pete and ask him for an updated qoute though. Just to make sure.

I really love this setting with the offset diamond (once I get the prongs right)... but it doesn't make my diamond look bigger. I'm going to have to see how I feel about that if there isn't that big of a difference between the two settings.

ETA: I don't like the setting with the diamond set with the prongs at the corners, unfortunately. But I just asked Tim at GOG... and he said that with my thick girdle, with an asscher's corners, and with insurance he would be okay with it personally... even though I'm clumsy. I'm also asked him about having Richard Landi move the prongs on the existing setting... and he said that a new head would have to be made... so scratch that idea.

Hi Gypsy!

So what''s the decision?

I am not surprised at what GOG suggested - their customer service has always been phenomenal for me, and that, plus Jon''s knowledge, ensures that I go back to them again and again for my purchases.

The setting looks great, and it''s more ''dainty'' than the baguette halo, and it sounds like it is more ''your'' style!

xoxo

I asked Pete for an updated qoute... so that's going to take a few days.

Depends on the price of the 'new' design (Irinia's four trap/four straight baguette halo) with the also 'new' tapered baguettes ... AND the price the jeweler gets a price from Landi for having them set my diamond, slimming down those monster prongs, and adding pave ...

I'll probably have to post about it, honestly. I really want people's honest opinions on which setting they feel is nicer. I see benifits with both settings.

Bag/ trap is unique and it makes my asscher look bigger. Downside is: it's custom so it's not going to be perfect... especially since it's a difficult and 'groundbreaking' for Quest design. AND platinum is very expensive right now. And I'm afraid of not loving it.

Landi split shank will be unique with my asscher offset and it's not custom... I looked at it under a loop and it's flawless. With the designer doing the rest of the work to it... it's likely going to be perfect when it's done too and it's priced at 'last years' platinum prices so I feel like I'm getting a good deal. Downside is: Despite Tim and Storm's assurances I'm nervous about setting my diamond like that-- and I don't like it set 'normal' in the setting.

BTW: DECO: When Landi sets it he will probably notch the collar/ neck area so the diamond sits in it right.

OMG Gypsy, I LOVE that setting.

It is just fantastic Your stone is going to look amazing.

I absolutely love it!

And I''m sure they could make the prongs smaller...but the rest, is just lovely...I LOVE IT.

Oh, and the setting looks great on your finger too.

THANK YOU LS! It is very pretty (except for the prongs...lol). And I really like it. Need some more information before a final decision. But it fits me perfectly and feels great on my finger. SO heavy and yummy!
