Went to a local SMALL B&M on a whim-- I''ve bought things from there before... inexpensive things, chains and such. They''ve always been very helpful and have a good local reputation. And I knew they had a decent display of ''standard'' settings and after the discussions the last few days I wanted to check out a few things. ( I wear a 6 BTW)

AND I found a setting I really REALLY like. Might even love. I couldn''t take it off my finger. Kept putting it back on.

Here''s the deal. It''s a Richard Landi setting. It''s a tapered split shank with micro pave on each of the thin shanks one sided without millgrain. It''s made for a round and it has a ... basket?? A round paved ( light milgrain edged) NECK and four thick (didn''t love this part) prongs.

I picked it up because it was a really beautiful split shank and I wanted to try on split shanks... well, the jeweler was this nice man who broke out a 6 x 6 princess for me to see held over each of the settings I was looking at. Except when he went to hold it over this one... it fell in and settled between the prongs like a diamond shape <>. And it just was perfect. I have seen asschers mounted this way in magazines and liked the look... and it clicked perfectly for me with this split shank setting.

THe jeweler said he could mount my asscher this way in the setting AS IT IS with the four prongs holding the straight long sides on the diamond and not the corners.

SO... here is my first question. Will this be safe? Because I LOVE the look of it. And so did DF.

Second... anyone know what prices for Landri settings shoud run? The jeweler was SHOCKED when he looked at the tag-- apparently he doesn''t have any other Landi settings in the store (or any other designer that I saw) and didn''t even remember this setting was one so the nearly 6K price tag had him saying, "This is a mistake... I mean it''s a good price for the setting-- if I put a 1 carat diamond in it for you." But he looked it up and his price was almost 3K-- it''s platinum. But I don''t know this designer and I don''t know if this is a fair price... or a high price since he only has the one Landi in.

http://www.richardlandi.com is the site... but I can''t seem to pull the blasted thing up to look for the ring and see if it''s on there.

Is it this one?

I dunno about the safety issue. Starset has a princess set sideways ... maybe she can chime in ...?

Gypsy. Goodoldgold carries Richard landi. I don''t know much about his settings but you could always call jonathan and ask them and see if their pricing is the same. From pics I''ve seen his settings all look very detailed and lovely. any chance the local jeweler would give you a nice break on the price

This one is Landri too & seems suited to an Asscher

This one would give a one carat asscher a "big" look without being a "pave halo" per se... Not sure if I dig it but ... thought I''d show ya ...

I call GOG.

I STILL can''t get Landi''s site to work for me. But I know most of his stuff is antiquey... like the lovely one deco just posted. This piece wasn''t though. At all. The pave split shanks were rounded and there was no engraving-- it was actually modern but with pave. REALLY pretty.

Is it like this one?

Amber... no. SORRY! Um. Imagine a round halo. Only the pave isn''t on TOP of the halo but around the outside of it. That''s the neck. The four prongs come out of that. Now the shanks... they look almost exactly like the Daniel K split shank (and Pokey''s) but they are rounded but squared off. And the pave is on one side. Whole ring sits VERY low.

As long as the girdle is med or better id have no problem with setting it that way.
The asscher cut is a strong cut usually with thick and robust girdles and no pointed corners like a princess.

COOL! I have a thick girdle.

Talked to Tim at GOG... he says setting the asscher off-set like that wouldn't be a problem with the girdle on mine... but that Landi makes each of their settings to order for each stone individually-- they prefer it that way. And for an offset asscher, he would definitely prefer that to a stock setting (which they don't even carry of Landri's line). SO... I have asked him for a qoute... although...lol. I couldn't give him a pic of the freaking setting.

Oh yeah. And he said that Landi's quality is exceptional. High praise.

Okay so this is irritating the snot out of me. My internet provider says the connection in my area is wonky... so while I can post to my heart''s content on PS I can''t load many other sites.

On the Richard Landi site I got some of the first page to load... enough to see that on the left hand side menu there is a link to the micro pave colllection... which is where I assume the split shank setting will be listed... but I can''t get it to open the link. Or do anything.

Patience... not my strong suit. LOL.

Did you go to GOG website???? They are upgrading, and providing a list to RL settings.........as well as a link to wesite...I discovered this via a PS thread the other nite............might tide you over till you hear back.....put in the shape stone, metal etc, and they have some listed........

I requested a price for the second setting pictured on this thread from GOG. I'll let you know when I get it just for the sake of comparison.

Were you able to look at the Landi settings on the GOG site?

LMAO can't get GOG's site to load either. Comcast is having a problem with its DNS or something server in my exact area. Pricescope and like two other sites are all that work. LOL. Ohl well.

DS... that's a lovely setting! Truly. Mine (starting to think of that way now) is not from his antique collection. I think it's in the micropave collection. As for GOG... can't get it to work.

Stupid Comcast.

Hey Gypsy ...

I went through the whole Richard Landri site and didn't see anything close to what you're describing. All the stuff looks equally antique. Posted the closest ones I could find ... so ...

Maybe its a new style or an old style??

ETA: most of the ones I posted were from the "micropave" collection ..NOT the antique repro part. ALL his stuff looks like that. At least the stuff on his site.

Hello honey!

I just looked through all the pages in the site as well, and can''t find anything like what you''ve described.

OH THANKS GUYS!!!

So VERY nice of you both. (HI JADE!)

Okay. So, it's now a complete Mystery. If I didn't read the Landi stamp on the inside of the ring through the loop myself I would start to wonder. Oh well, I'll see if Tim has any news on it tomorrow. It was so heavy and nice the platinum. I'd forgotten how much I love the feel of platinum.

I'm hoping that maybe Tim will send me a picture or two so I can show it to you all. The two shank parts are really delicate too... the whole ring is about the width of my existing x-prong. about 5mm. I was wearing it for over an hour... and it was really omfortable too.

BTW... BBQing fish on a cedar plank is YUMMY! Just had the best dinner.

ETA: Blasted thing is finally working. Thank you all for being my eyes on this. There is nothing close to it on the site, as you said. And nothing I like as much as the one I saw....

Gypsy - that sounds lovely! Do you think you could take a pic of it and post it? I''d love to see it!

And Deco - I LOVE that second ring you posted. Just faboo!

The jeweler is less than a mile away. I have a digital camera. If they let me I will take a pic of it I will. If Tim doesn''t have one. My digital is a piece of crap, frankly, so I''m hoping Tim will be able to show me one to verify that it''s the right setting.

How do you ask jewelers to photograph settings anyway? Just go in there and tell them I want a hand pic before I decide on the setting? Hmmm....

Gypsy - I think you go into the store and explain that you are a regular poster on a website for people that are totally nuts about jewelry and they''d love to see a picture of the setting.

I was originally expecting that to be a somewhat funny response, but actually, that just might work! hehee!

LOL. I''d worry about freaking them out about copyright issues. But I CAN say I want my mom to see it and she''s in CA and can I please take a few pictures. THAT would work.

you can try it. If they won''t let you do it, maybe they''d give you the item number so you could look it up online??

If it''s not online, it could be that it is not a currently offered design. Of course, I think most of the catalogs of these companies are more extensive than what they put on their websites, too.

DS is right. if it''s been discontinued maybe you could get it at a closeout price??

Okay... here are the best pics I could manage-- this one is the setting with my CZ asscher earing in it (jeweler wasn''t there so they couldn''t pull a diamond for it today).

See what I mean about the MONSTER prongs? (btw the CZ ismuch bigger than my 6X6 it''s probably 7.5 or 8mm square)

Wow, it''s really beautiful.

Haven''t seen it anywhere, but think it would look very nice......just enough bling!!! Perfect!

Here is the hand shot:
