I am absolutely in love with this setting. Whiteflash is all set to get the cast from Adwar. (Poor Jamie at Whiteflash, I must have changed my mind a million times already). I found these pictures on another site, and I am assuming it is the same ring. Here''s my concern, brought to my attention by my husband....

The ring doesn''t have a "bottom" so to speak. The shank on the ring splits off to turn into the prongs, leaving empty space below the diamond. My concern is, if my finger swells at all, that it will poke up through the bottom of the setting... which could not only be uncomfortable, but wouldn''t look so hot either...

Anyone have experience with a ring like this? Do you find the lack of continuous band to be a problem?

I don''t have any experience with rings that don''t have a finger bezel but I think it''s a beautiful ring. I''m trying to think of rings that have a similar fit (maybe there''s a Danhov style that does that). I think Whiteflash could also make the prongs a bit more dainty, too, but overall I love the fluidity of that setting!

Pixley - I''m totally in love with it. I was going to see if whiteflash could make it a bit more dainty as well. :)

Darned husband has me all worried now. :p

Judging from the ring in the picture, it looks like there is a fair amount of space from the bottom of the culet to where the ''bottom'' of a ring would be. I can''t imagine your finger swelling and poking through the ring that far up but it is a good question to ask the folks at WF.

I''m guessing that it won''t be a problem though. It is a very nice setting but I too think I would want the prongs made a bit smaller if possible.

Good luck - with so many pretty mountings out there, the hard part is done. You''ve found one that you love!

Don''t you hate it when they put crazy thoughts into your head??? I would think you''d be ok as long as you get the sizing right.

MissGotRocks - I must have looked at 8 million and 4 settings. :P I kept coming back to this one though! I have an email in to Whiteflash...

I can''t imagine that my finger would swell that much either. There is a definite size difference in my hands from winter to summer, but luckily (or unluckily) MI is cold most of the time...

Pixley - My husband feels so bad now, LOL. At least he gave me the chance to investigate! And I''d rather he have said something now, rather than let me get it, discover there''s a problem and go, "Yeah, I thought of that, but didn''t want to say anything...."

Then it''s definitely the one! I''ll be anxious to hear what they have to say.

My e-ring has a setting kind of like that - it looks solid from the top, but it actually is "indented" all under the diamonds in the setting. And my skin does try to swell up into that space, and it''s rather hurts. So I haven''t been wearing it this summer. (It was ok til I got my wedding band, but with the added width it is sitting on the widest part of my finger so it''s pretty uncomfortable, even though it fits fine.) It is definitly something to consider.

hmmmm...I don''t know about this...maybe if you get it a 1/4 size larger this would not do that???

It''s hard to picture that happening. That is a beautiful setting. I love it!

I agree, it doesn''t look like there would be much of a problem there, especially as Futuremrss said - maybe a bit larger - but still, it doesn''t appear that your finger would swell that high into the ring.

That being said, I really think that setting is gorgeous and I can not wait to see pics of it when you get it. I love how smooth it looks and how the metal flows...very nice choice and I am sure it will totally be worth the wait!

I have the ring below as do several other PS''ers. It doesn''t have a ''bottom'' and I''ve not had any issues. It sits very low on my finger which I like and the culet does not touch my finger (even when my fingers are swollen). I haven''t heard of any issues from others who have this same setting. It''s *very* comfortable. It looks like your ring has more structure underneath that this setting so it seems to me that it would be fine. What a beautiful setting!!

I love this ring as well. it was one of the first solitaires I found when I first started looking online. I too had the same concern. I wondered if it would be possile to make the underside of the ring go compeltely around your finger. Keeping the rest of the ring the same. SO I guess adding that part and incoorporating it into the design without losing all the reasons you love it.

I am not sure...You should ask whiteflash what they think. There really is that area where it would be possible I would think for your finger to swell into that area and possibly hurt.

we also have a "bottomless" ring where the culet sits low but it has never touched her skin, you will be fine good luck!

Wow! Thanks for all of the wonderful responses!

Monkeypie - That's what I'm afraid of, that it would be uncomfortable and I wouldn't wear it. Which would suck, as I wear my solitaire everyday.... And what's the point of getting something beautiful if I can't wear it. My fingers do swell a bit every day, which could cause problems. :P

Futuremrss - I can't actually have the ring made larger, because my fingers taper. In otherwords, the base of my finger is the widest point, my knuckles aren't bigger to hold a ring on. So I have to wear my rings fairly snug to keep them on.

lauralu - I'm going to talk to whiteflash and see if they can make the band continuous, without killing the flow of the prongs. We'll see what they say! At some point having them make all these alterations could have an adverse effect on the cost. The whole reason I was going with something from Adwar is that I can't really afford to go totally custom right now.

Portia and Mike - You are giving me hope that it will be okay! :)

MissGotRocks - It really is my favorite setting of all I've seen.... cross your fingers for me! :)

Another one here with a "bottomless" ring. Actually the side of my ring looks just like that. I have no problems.. Actually I kinda think it makes it feel bigger. I also think it makes the ring feel very light and comfortable to wear as opposed to my finger being suffocated by a few other rings I have. Hope that makes sense...
BTW... very pretty ring, I like it a lot!

Crookedrock - thanks! I really like it too. I wanted something a bit funkier, but without departing too much from my standard 6 prong. :)

I feel better now. Maybe I''ll just ask WF to make sure that the shank is as rounded as possible so it doesn''t "dig" in so to speak.

And I do know what you mean about suffocating rings...

Worst case scenario, I can have a local jeweler, or whiteflash modify it to make the shank continuous if it''s a problem.

I''m going for it!

Jamie at Whiteflash is AMAZING. I''ll keep you all posted!

While we all wish you luck, I doubt you''ll need it; you''re definitely picking a winner. Plus, it''s something you LOVE! you can''t go wrong :-)

So I went to my local jeweler to have my diamond removed to send to WF. The ensuing conversation got me a custom made ring for less that WF was going to charge... I feel awful about all the time Jamie has put in responding to my emails, but at the same time am ecstatic that I''ll get to see a wax and have input as they create it for me....

Dani- That''s great that your local jeweler will create the same ring for you, but one question; is the jeweler you''re going to be working with experienced with custom work? I''ve read many many posts on here in 3 years on custom jobs gone bad. It really does take an experience jeweler to get the product that the customer wants. Just food for thought!! I can''t wait to see the finished setting!

Yes, the jeweler does quite a lot of custom work. My sister in law has a custom made wedding band from them, it's quite intricate and absolutely gorgeous. :)

I did ask about the comfort of the ring, swelling etc, the comment was: Lemme see your hands... yeah, you're not aa pudgy girl, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Nice to know I'm not pudgy, LOL.

LOL! That''s probably the easiest way to make a sale is to say a woman''s fingers look thin! I know it would work on my, lol. I can''t wait to see your ring when it''s done! Hope you post pixs

LOL. It was pretty funny. I''ll definitely post pics when it''s done! The wax should be done on the 24th...

The Ritani Endless Love halo is open at the bottom like that. Quite a few people here have it and I haven''t read anyone complain about their finger hitting the cutlet. I also think your finger would have a better chance at hitting the cutlet in the Ritani than in your ring. I don''t think you have anything to worry about.
