While I'm not normally a big forum-posting person, I recently got engaged and when my fiance and I started looking at wedding bands, we turned to reading diamond advice in the online community at the advice of a friend. And boy, was he right! We found Whiteflash, Inc., in Houston, and I was so impressed with their service, professionalism, and most of all the quality of their diamonds, that I just had to post about them! Anyway, Whiteflash did a custom-designed wedding band for my fiance: It's a 7mm band (14K white gold) with three "A Cut Above" round-brilliant cut diamonds, TCW .15 (F,G - VS1). I just love how they can make small diamonds sparkle and flash - really eye-catching. I was hesitant to even get diamonds on a band because they seem to turn out looking like chips of glass (at least in dept. stores and such), but the great people at Whiteflash did an amazing job - the diamonds and the ring look great.

I've posted here a picture of the ring, and I would love to hear any comments you guys have on it - we'd be so greatful for any opinions (expert or not!) on what we got. I'm really interested to know though, why it is that small diamonds don't usually end up looking very good? Are they just lower grade because they can be (i.e. no one's looking that closely at a smaller diamond) or is there another reason? Hope this question isn't too naive! Thanks!

Beautiful w-band!!

I got my hubby a band with 3 diamonds in it after the kids came along. Three kids, all April birthdays, so diamond is their birthstone. To me, it symbolized our 3 children in hubby's w-band.

Well cut melee is kinda like well cut larger diamonds. There is lots of jewelry out there with not so great to out right crappy diamonds in it. Same with melee. Most is not the best. Occassionally you see top quality melee used to make beautiful, hierloom quality pieces.

Many Congrats on your upcoming wedding!! May you have many happy, healthy years together.

Cute... I don't think F/G VS1 is low quality at all. People often say you can go down in clarity b/c it's harder to see in smaller stones. My personal preference, in smaller RBs is to go for color over clarity (w/o sacrificing durability of course).

Congrats!

Hi Xena,

Congratulations on your engagement (and what a cute couple you two make!)

! Whiteflash’s ACA H&A melee are excellent and I’ve heard nothing but good things about those stones from customers!

Everyone who is in the market for smaller diamonds really raves about them!! Cut can make all the difference in a stone and with the superior cut that these melees carry its no wonder they outshine other less well-cut smaller stones.

Congrats once again and thanks for the pics!

Kindest regards always,
Linda

Thanks for all the info on melee (I didn't even realize that's what they were called), everyone! It will definitely come in handy when I start hinting about that anniversary band I'm already thinking about...:-) And I will pass along all your congrats and well-wishes to my hubby-to-be. We're so excited about the wedding and I will post a pic of my w-band when it is ready, too! I'm definitely happy with Whiteflash's ACA H&A. Thanks again!
