As promised, the followup post to my previous long, drawn out post!!

I wanted to include my proposal, although not ideal, ideal in my mind for the situation. I won't even discuss the sabotage that I did in another post because everything was still PERFECT, just as it should have been.

So, my girlfriend is a traveling nurse from FL and me and her met at work. After living together for a while and things being great, I volunteered to deploy to Iraq and initially thought maybe she should go back to Florida while I was gone because ALL her family and friends live in Florida, but she really wanted to stay in our house and take care of my dogs. So I leave and with all the turmoil I see in relationships during deployments (experienced personally my last deployment), she has been a true breath of fresh air this entire deployment and has made things absolutely perfect for me. As many times said, our time apart just made me that much more certain that I never wanted to be apart from her again and brought us that much closer. Problem is, being a knucklehead that I am, I made a comment before I left "if you are as great while I am gone as you have been, I am going to marry you when I get back". This is a problem because I start looking into stuff and ask her questions and likes/dislikes in rings and already I can see the wheels turning in her mind about me proposing when I get back and how can you ever surprise a woman that will be expecting it. And after MONTHS of being there for me despite no real long term commitment, I just thought she deserved to know I was as committed as her so the seriousness of this "long distance" proposal became reality. Although I was initially against it, the more she did for me and the more I knew I could never surprise her when I got back, the more it seemed perfect. So I talked to her mom about it and asked there blessing to even consider it and her parents were all for it. I next talked to her best friend about it (like her sister), who was hesitant at first (only wanting her best friend to have the best) but when she saw how much it meant to me, she changed. Because I wanted to design a custom ring, I missed any chance of Christmas proposal, which is good because that is so cliche anyways but after many discussions, decided we would fly her mom down for several weeks to "spend time with her" but to be that much more special to have her mom there. I started researching RIDICULOUSLY about what to get because I wanted her to have the perfect ring, since she wasn't having the perfect proposal wth me not there, I was going to send my spirit in the ring. Good thing about deployment is there is ALOT of downtime so I researched and researched, over 2 months straight. I am a physician, so when I research something I take it to the extreme. Finally after a few blunders and a few learning experiences, I knew the stone I wanted, I had a GREAT talk with Joseph from WF and got the setting, saw the CADs and now 6 weeks for production. This was time for me to decide. SOOOO many things went through my head, but limited by resources. I wanted to do a video (live footage) of me proposing but the file would be too big to send through email, the connection is WAY TOO slow to upload on a site, and there is no outgoing mail (to send a disk). So with my new macbook, I played around with imovie and made a great slide show. I thought I would have this slideshow played at a spurs game or a movie theater but I couldn't save the file in a high enough equality to play there again because of size, so I slimmed it down to a mobile file limiting my play options. Had to be a computer to not distort the images and I would just do an intimate setting. The ring is finished, I have it sent to her parents, once her dad can see the ring, I call to talk to him so he could see in the ring what my eyes and face would tell him in person and that is how much I love his daughter. Her parents bless everything, her moms flies to San Antonio, and then we wait. I have my best friend and his wife pick up her mom the first night to "entertain her" because my girlfriend had to work the night shift but it really was to take her to have the ring looked at again and everything was great. With this interaction, I had her mom say she was so grateful to my best friend that she wanted to cook him and his wife dinner. The day of the dinner I have her mom make her take on a girls day to get their nails done (gotta be handshot ready) and her mom plans this great dinner, all made from scratch. My best friend borrows my camcorder because he "has a project to do" but really to familiarize with how to use it and have a reason to have it out the night of the dinner. So dinner happens, dessert and I wake up at 5am (8pm in texas) and go to the computer lab and sit and plan the timing with my friend. He makes a story that he "needs to use her computer to show her his project" and when he gets on, logs onto her skype, minimizes it, and puts the disk in with the file I sent (took me 3 hours of sitting to upload) and says "ok here is my project, I need to videotape your reaction". He texts me on my yahoo messenger from his phone and I start a stop watch because I know exactly how long the video is. At exactly 3 minutes 23 seconds, I place a skype call to her (she doesnt even know it is logged in) so I could followup over video chat with my real sentiments and tell her although the situation is not ideal, being with her the rest of her life is the most ideal situation I can imagine and that is all that matters to me. :) Lots of tears, lots of emotions and then after all that ,finally some lights go off and she started putting together allthe planning I had been doing behind the scenes. Whooooaaa, sorry, long and drawn out story, but wanted to capture how special it was and doing anything special from this environment is a CHALLENGE. I had her upload the file that night to her facebook as a way to announce to all her friends back in FL that she is now engaged and I uploaded the photos. Things went great, the ring is AWESOME, and I am just happy that I only have 5 more weeks left! 8) I am attaching a link below to anyone that wants to see the video I made, again bare with me that I had to limit anything fancy and file sizes because of my lack of ability to get anything better quality back to her. In the end, maybe in person could have been better, but doing this like this meant more to me than anything else and a proposal that means something I think is all most women want. I hope you guys enjoy and sorry to be so long winded. Hand shots should be coming today or tomorrow.

No worries TimMD, but unfortunately at this time we must be consistent with the policy. We are hoping to have a way to share videos on the website soon that will not open up other issues.

Sorry again Ella, I really am not trying to break rules :( I just noticed that the emails were going into my trash folder. I really did try to find the complete rules but I kept running across the trademark/logo rules. I will try to stay in line, I am sorry.
